The Kiss that Sparked it All novel Chapter 2766

Was it really just the boss' distaste for Ahab's character that got him the boot, or was there someone pulling strings behind the scenes?

Regina had a feeling that it was the latter.

"Hey, Uncle, it's me, Ahab!" Ahab's voice oozed with an unctuous charm as soon as the call connected. His colleagues, who witnessed this display, could barely conceal their disdain.

"I'm calling about my job situation... Yeah, what's with the sudden talk of firing me? Is there some kind of mistake? Uncle, I thought you had a word with them...

What? Are you kidding me right now? Ah, okay... I get it."

Ahab's voice trailed off to a whisper. His slumped posture and downcast eyes spoke volumes about the conversation he was having with his uncle.

The boss was feeling triumphant. For years, he'd been under the thumb of Ahab's influential uncle, unable to get rid of this dead weight from his department. Now, finally, he had the chance to vent his frustrations.

"So, what did your uncle say? Did he tell you to pack up and leave New Blossom Press? Let me lay it out for you—not even a hundred of your uncles could save you now. You better watch your back from here on out. And honestly, your writing? It's not cut out for journalism—paparazzi is more your style."

"You!"

Ahab spat out a curse, "You got lucky."

"And what of it? Still better than being a lowlife like you. Get out of the door, and don't let it hit you on the way out. You're a walking contagion."

Ahab's fists clenched, his whole body trembling with rage. He couldn't fathom why things had taken such a sudden downturn, why his usually reliable uncle was now sternly advising him to get lost from New Blossom Press and to stop all communications for a while.

Without his uncle's influence, how on earth could he secure another job?

His gaze then turned venomously towards Regina. It had to be her doing; she was the subject of that damning article.

She must have gotten some sugar daddy to ruin him, leaving him jobless!

Though he didn't dare lay a hand on the boss, Regina was just a woman, and Ahab, unencumbered by hesitation, charged at her.

Just as he reached out to grab her, Regina sidestepped with a swift move.

"Ahab, what the hell do you think you're doing!" The boss slammed his fist on the desk, "Quick, hold him back, don't let him harass Regina!"

The other male colleagues snapped to attention, each grabbing an arm, and Ahab was instantly immobilized.

"Let me go; it's all because of this woman! You whore, if it wasn't for you, I would never be fired! What, can't people say you're a whore? It's the truth! I just voiced the ugly truth of what I saw.

Heh, you guys think this woman's as innocent as she looks? She's slept with who knows how many men; even a drunkard could have his way with her! Hahaha!

Do you think she got her scoops through sheer will? No, she used her body! Such filth, and you still want her as a colleague? Why don't you fire her along with me? Hahaha!"

Ahab was like a madman, determined to take someone down with him, even in his downfall. But his words were disjointed, and besides, Regina's first big scoop was an interview with Dahlia, a woman. How could Regina have used her body to secure that interview?
