Hamed's words made these seven so-called highly-educated elite feel extremely shocked. They felt as though their whole world was instantly collapsing at this moment.
Their purpose in coming to film the documentary in Syria was completely different in comparison to Autumn. They did not actually have any good intentions or purpose, nor did they truly sympathize with the people who were suffering because of the war. They were all simply hoping that they would be able to give themselves an even more powerful resume so that they would have more opportunities for achieving greater things in the hypocritical upper-class society in the West. 4
After landing a good job in the upper-class society in the future, when everyone was toasting and drinking together at any high-end cocktail parties or receptions, they would be able to laugh and bring up the fact that they had actually gone to Syria to film a documentary on the battlefield for the sake of raising awareness among people about anti-war. As soon as they spoke of this, they would certainly gain a lot of praise from the people around them, then.
At that time, their superiors and bosses would not only have a better impression of them, but they would also be able to gain the admiration and respect of most aristocrats and dignitaries. It would certainly be
a good qualification and experience that would be able to last them for a lifetime. 4
However, they never would have dreamt that in an attempt to come to Syria to brush up their qualifications and resumes, they would actually be trapping themselves in Syria for the rest of their lives!
When they thought about the fact that they would have to stay in this godforsaken place as a slave for the rest of their lives, all of these seven people began crying and wailing miserably without exception.
When Hamed saw that the seven of them were crying s o miserably, he asked coldly, "Why are you crying? Didn’t you think that something like this would happen when you came to Syria?!”
Amongst the seven people, the kid of Indian descent cried as he said, "We simply wanted to brush up on our qualifications and resume. We never expected it to turn out to be so dangerous. Commander Hamed, I beg you, please let us go. The seven of us only know how t o study. We cannot do anything else at all. It would only be even more tedious and cumbersome for you to keep us here!" 2
The others also continued crying as they pleaded with him.
To these people, they would have to try their best to fight for their freedom as long as there was still a glimmer of hope.
