THE FOLLOWING DAY, the sun shone past through the window and was flashing bright towards the happy couples sleeping into the soft cottony sheets.
Zero opened his eyes and smiled as he stared at Isla, who was peacefully sleeping in his arm. He lifted his hand and pushed back the strands of her hair. He runs his fingertips into her cheeks. Isla gained weight because of their child, and nothing changed. She’s still beautiful since the day they met.
She heard her groan and slowly opened her eyes. “Good morning, sunshine,” Zero uttered with a smile creeping into his face.
Isla thought what had happened yesterday was just a dream, but it turns out that it was real. She smiled at him. “Morning,” she mumbled and closed her eyes again.
Zero frowned slightly. “Are you going to sleep again, baby?” he asked.
Hearing Zero’s soft and calm voice made her feel thrilled and lucky. And damn, it still feels like she’s just dreaming.
However, she knew that it was not.
She opened her eyes again and met his gaze. Suddenly, her fingers went to her eyes and searched for what they called: the morning star. But she got nothing.
“Don’t bother to look for it, baby. You look fresh like those newly blooming flowers in the garden,” Zero asserted.
Isla couldn’t help but grimace when she heard Zero’s corny words. “I’m not used to the Zero who’s being sweet,” she said, making Zero laugh.
Damn, she cursed inside. Why does he have a mint breath? He just woke up, right? She thought.
She smiled at him. “Hmm… you really didn’t leave?”
Zero nodded as he planted a soft kiss on her forehead, making her close her eyes and shiver. That electrifying kiss arouses something inside her, but she doesn’t want to think about it.
“Didn’t Apollo get in here and drag you out?” she asked as she met his gaze.
Zero let out a soft chuckle. “Nope. And why would he?”
Isla shrugged her shoulder. “I don’t know. You two used to threaten each other—Apollo used to threaten you not to come close to me, yet he’s letting you know?”
“Look how fast the days change,” Zero replied and flashed a smile at her.
“And I’m not used to seeing you smiling at me. You don’t know how to smile genuinely, as far as I remember. And I always saw your devilish smirk,” she uttered, making Zero laugh out loud.
And when he stopped, he gave a peck on her lips. “Guess people change,” he replied.
Isla slammed his chest and laughed. Then suddenly, she felt her baby move inside her bump. “She kicked!” she exclaimed, and her eyes widened.
“Who? Who kicked?” Zero got up immediately and looked around. He frowned and looked at Isla. “W-Who—”
Isla can’t help but laugh out loud. She held her tummy. She stopped and looked at Zero intently. “Our daughter,” she said.
Zero’s forehead creased, and his gaze landed on her baby bump. He lifted his hand, reached for her baby bump, and gently rested his hand on it.
He smiled.
And seeing it, Isla couldn’t help but smile too. The monster she had known was tamed.
“Hi there, baby,” Zero mumbled and began to caress her tummy. “Daddy’s here….”
Hearing it, Isla pouted and was calming herself not to cry. Don’t cry. Don’t cry… she keeps chanting it inside her mind.
“Why are you not answering?” Zero asked, making Isla slam his shoulder. “Ouch,” Zero complained.
“Are you nuts? How can she answer if she’s—”
“I mean, she will kick. If she heard his daddy, she should kick,” he reasoned out, making Isla shake her head.
She held Zero’s shoulder as she got up and leaned on the headboard. Zero looked at her and smiled.
“When will be your due date?” Zero asked.
“Guess when,” she teased.
Zero arched his brow and sighed. “Never mind. I want it to be surprising. And I don’t want to count days if I find it out,” he replied.
Isla smiled. “If you say so.”
“Uhm, are you hungry? What do you want, and what does my little one want?” Zero asked as he caressed her bump.
Isla smiled. “What do I want?” she asked.
Zero frowned slightly and nodded.
Isla bit her lower lip as she looked at Zero meaningfully, an idea running inside her head. “Hmm…” she shrugged her shoulders, “I don’t know—”
“Then—”
“—Maybe you?” Isla asked.
Even’s eyes widened as shock filled in, and it took a couple of seconds before he reacted. He laughed and suddenly brushed his lips into hers.
THE WEEK had passed.
“Don’t you think it’s fine if we had sex?” Zero’s voice breaks the silence inside Isla’s room.
It was five in the afternoon when they decided to take a nap after a tiring day inside the mall, looking and buying baby stuff.
