The substitute bride is a mute novel Chapter 15

After tussling about, he pressed her onto the sofa.

His gaze felt like it could pierce through her heart as he demanded, "You could've gone for anyone, yet you chose Dominic. Was your goal to drive a wedge between us, or was it to humiliate me?

"Or perhaps, did you do it to spite Sally? Because you hate her?"

Her wrists were pinned down and she couldn't move an inch.

Judy started to panic—what was he after?

His thumb gently ran along the frame of her face.

"What a pair of clear, beautiful eyes," he said. "Unfortunately, it's tainted with malicious intent and dirty tactics. After all, a daughter of the Blake family couldn't possibly be innocent."

There was a strange hatred laced in his voice.

Judy didn't quite understand where his hatred stemmed from.

She wanted to break free from his grip. Her mouth opened and closed as she tried to form the words: "Let me go… Let me go…"

The man's grip was too strong and it physically hurt her. She thought about the events that took place since she arrived at the Reid Manor, as well as the things he was accusing her of. Suddenly, she felt incredibly wronged and upset.

Halfway through her struggle, a slip from the hospital fell out of her pocket—it was her grandmother's medical records.

Clark picked it up and froze once he read it.

She wasn't lying after all.

He looked down at the woman under him. Her face was already flooded with tears.

This was the first time she'd ever cried in front of him. She didn't make a single sound as she wept. Teardrops just kept streaming down her cheeks.

For reasons unknown, his initial anger vanished just like that.

"I'll let you go this time. If I ever catch you being extra cozy with Dominic again, I'll. Lock. You. Up."

The last three words made her shudder.

After he left, Judy picked up the medical record with trembling hands and kept it away.

At long last, she shut her eyes tightly and a strangled sob escaped her mouth. If it were up to her, she'd want nothing more than to stay far, far away from the Reid Manor. She never wanted to see Clark Reid ever again!
