Upon hearing this, Helen couldn't be bothered to get angry with Matt anymore and quickly reached out her hand as instructed.
Kingsley gently placed his hand on Helen's aged wrist and concentrated on feeling her pulse.
After a moment, he withdrew his fingers and said plainly, "Your condition hasn't worsened, Old Mrs. Fox. In fact, due to your rest lately, you've actually improved a lot since the last time I saw you."
"But that doesn't make sense, Dr. Nicholson," Helen replied. "Why do I always feel weak and powerless recently? Isn't it a sign of my heart deteriorating?"
Kingsley shook his head. "Even a normal person lying in bed for a month would feel weak all over."
With a slightly colder tone, he continued, "So, just because you feel weak, you pressured Dr. Kramer to write a treatment plan for you? I believe you understand your condition very well. No one here can cure you except for me. Why put unnecessary pressure on Dr. Kramer to write a futile plan?"
Kingsley wasn't certain yet whether it was Helen's idea for Alice to write a treatment plan or if it was James trying to undermine her. As such, he questioned the elder directly to see how she would react.
"A treatment plan? What treatment plan?" Helen appeared confused. "I haven't asked Dr. Kramer to write any plan! I've been eagerly waiting for you every day, Dr. Nicholson, to come and treat me!"
Her reaction seemed entirely natural, not feigned.
Kingsley frowned and thought to himself, If it's not Old Mrs. Fox's idea, then it must be Director Arison!
With that in mind, he said to Helen, "I must have guessed wrong, Old Mrs. Fox. Don't take it to heart. I was just asking casually."
Meanwhile, on the other side of the bed, Matt's mind was racing. Could it be that Kramer didn't tell Nicholson about what happened in Director Arison's office? Is she planning to bear everything on her own? Or does she think that I, the chairman of the Roseland Chamber of Commerce and the head of the Jacobs Family, am just joking with her?!
