Celeste's words stopped Gary from saying everything he wanted to say. She didn't want to hear his explanation.
At that moment, he realized her intentions of wanting to avoid this.
He opened his mouth but the words were stuck in his throat.
He could only remain silent and say nothing.
Just then, he was looking at her with eager eyes.
She turned her head to face the other way.
Her voice sounded again. "I feel like sleeping a bit more. Join me. You didn't sleep well too. You can just lie there if you couldn't fall back to sleep."
He heard her. Although her tone was calm, he felt a great pang grip his heart.
Shame and self-blame filled him in an instant. He pursed his lips and agreed. Then, he hurried to lie down again.
Gary took a deep breath. The rims of his eyes were red but he still took her into his arms.
Celeste didn't move but she spoke again, "Get
some sleep. Isn't it uncomfortable to hold me?"
He froze and felt a little awkward.
However, he was reluctant to leave her warmth. Even if they were not doing anything, he felt comforted and secure.
He knew what she meant by uncomfortable.
His body couldn't stay calm as he hugged her.
And she could feel it. Neither of them could sleep in such a way.
Even so, he didn't want to let go.
He was afraid that he would lose her as soon as he let go.
"It doesn't matter," Gary muttered, "I don't need that much sleep."
Celeste frowned, worried he wouldn't be able to sleep well. So she struggled out of his embrace.
With nothing left in his arms, his heart sank. He stared blankly at her back. His eyes dimmed when he saw her evasion, but it did not stop him from pulling her into his arms again.
This time, he wrapped his arms around her tightly, leaving no chance for her to escape.
She froze as if she was imprisoned. However, she did not attempt another escape.
She knew him well enough to know that struggling
was futile.
They had been sharing a bed for some time so they had gotten used to hugging each other to sleep.
Almost every time they lay in bed together, they would end up doing it all night. Now that something like this had happened, he respected her boundaries.
Gary didn't force her to do more and he proved it with his actions.
However, it made Celeste feel even more jealous.
With just a slight movement, she could feel the changes in his body.
He was heating up behind her and she felt it. Her heart was swaying.
She knew what he wanted.
But he didn't move.
Instead, he endured the urge.
This did not seem like the usual him at all.
She knew he hated himself for his mistake.
He had never once admitted to his mistakes.
But with his heart filled with guilt, he had to present himself as gentlemanly as possible.
What should she do?
After hesitating for a while, Celeste said, "You'd better let go." "I won't." Gary's tone was firm.
"If you continue like this, I won't be able to sleep. Well both feel miserable." She emphasized her words as she looked down to catch sight of the arms around her waist. She stared at them.
He was conflicted but he didn't care.
With a sudden movement, he turned her over and got above her.
Seeing that he was staring at her, she was startled. "What are you doing?"
