"Celeste!" Gary's eyes reddened too upon hearing what Celeste said. He thought he could get hold of his own emotions but it seemed that he was wrong about himself.
"Celeste, don't say that. You're not in the wrong," Gary shook his head in dismay, "I'm the one at fault. You did nothing wrong. That d*mn woman and I are the ones who made a mistake."
Celeste shook her head as tears flowed down her cheeks, "I was wrong for being too greedy. I was wrong for asking too much of you."
"Celeste, don't say that. It makes me feel worse," Gary's voice grew hoarse as his eyes reddened.
He was still trying to hold back his emotions.
Similarly, Celeste bit her lip tightly, trying hard to not let her tears fall.
Crying would only make her look weak.
She no longer liked using her tears to express her emotions, yet she couldn't seem to control her emotions at that moment.
She looked away, refusing to look at Gary again. Celeste pursed her lips tightly as a bitter sense of grievance filled her heart.
She had not cried in a long time, although she felt like she had been suffering much.
However, it was true that she had been really happy recently to the point that she had repressed all her inner feelings.
It all started when Gary went all the way to London to find her and later when she followed him to Boston.
They were really getting along well at that time.
If Janice wasn't suddenly pregnant, perhaps Celeste and Gary could always stay happy like this.
However, that wasn't the case for them.
It had gotten so bad that Celeste even started wondering if she was destined to live a miserable life.
She felt that it was as if she could never get rid of her misfortune.
She would drag whoever was close to her into an abyss. In fact, it was the same with Cindy too.
And now, it was Gary's turn to be riddled with misfortune.
Celeste felt like she was causing all these misfortunes to the people around her.
Noticing that Celeste was refusing to look at him and even turning her back on him, Gary felt even more sorry towards her.
His heart was aching.
He would never let Celeste cry if he could.
Gary felt as if his heart was being torn into two upon seeing the woman he loved shedding a tear in front of him.
"Celeste, it's all my fault," Gary knelt down on one knee by the bed. He took her face in his hands, forcing her to look at him as he said, "I know you will still be upset at me no matter what I tell you."
Celeste lowered her gaze as her tears started rolling down her cheeks once again.
Feeling her tears in his palms, Gary's heart ached.
"I'll respect your decision this time, no matter what it is," Gary still came to this conclusion.
Celeste's chest tightened. She knew Gary was someone who would always take the initiative to strike first.
It was clear to her that he was left with no choice but to let her make the decision this time.
Celeste's gaze froze upon realizing this.
She didn't know what to do.
If she knew what step she should take, she wouldn't be in so much pain.
Celeste knew that Gary was respecting her decision, but she just couldn't make up her mind.
Taking a deep breath, Celeste ignored the pain in her heart and said, "I don't know what to do either. I think I just need some time alone for now."
"To be honest, I don't want to break up with you, but I can't let this go either for the time being. This is the only solution I can think of for now."
"Celeste, I understand. I'll wait for you to make up your mind," Gary replied.
Celeste was promptly startled.
She was only in so much pain because she didn't know what to do.
If she could make a decision, she would not be in such a predicament.
After a moment of silence, Celeste asked, "It isn't proven yet, is it?"
Gary was startled and didn't reply.
Celeste glanced at him. She took a deep breath and wiped her tears away. She looked much calmer than before.
"Is it proven that the baby is yours?" Celeste asked again.
Gary nodded, "Yes, the results showed that the baby is mine."
Celeste was in a daze. She could only try to smile amidst her tears despite feeling like she was being torn apart.
"Did you do a DNA test?" Celeste asked.
"Yes," Gary didn't want to hide anything from Celeste and told her everything. "Lowell helped me conduct a checkup, and I went somewhere else to check just to make sure there weren't any errors. All the results have pointed to the fact that the baby is mine."
