Upon seeing Celeste's smile, Lowell immediately relaxed slightly. From his perspective, Celeste was still beaming widely, so there was no way she could've found out about the unfortunate incident.
Lowell secretly prayed that Celeste would always be happy and full of smiles. He didn't want anything terrible to happen to ever take that smile away from her face.
Unlike Lowell who naively assumed that Celeste wasn't affected by anything and was probably celebrating secretly, Gary, on the other hand, could only flash a tense smile towards Celeste.
His handsome face was gloomy. However, since they were in front of Lowell, Celeste still managed to stay pretty calm and composed.
Gary initially thought that upon seeing Lowell, Celeste would feel slightly uneasy. Yet, Celeste was not even fazed. Instead, she looked quite natural and normal.
She was so calm and collected as if everything that happened, never happened. Her ability to keep her cool was simply too much. Even Gary could not help but sigh.
He narrowed his eyes and joined in on the act, cooperating with Celeste to his best ability.
Since he was able to see through Celeste's pain, he had chosen to act along with Celeste.
This was worth it if it could make Celeste feel slightly better.
Gary readjusted himself and walked towards Celeste with a gentle smile. At that moment, something flashed across his eyes. It seemed he had underestimated how strong Celeste was.
He had always thought that Celeste was weak. He never knew that Celeste possessed this much strength in her.
Gary moved a step ahead of Lowell and walked towards Celeste. Then, he gazed upon Celeste and took her into his embrace, all while maintaining a polite but natural smile.
He asked gently, "Why were you walking alone? It's so cold. You should've asked me to walk with you."
After being pulled into Gary's embrace, Celeste stiffened. However, her expression did not change. On the contrary, she burst into laughter.
"It's alright. It's not that cold, and it was nice taking a stroll while enjoying the scenery," Celeste freed herself from his embrace silently and flashed a bright grin at Lowell, "Your conversation with Gary was rather quick."
"Well, there's nothing much to talk about with him. I was just checking up on him since it's been quite some time since we last saw each other," Lowell immediately chuckled, "I'm glad to see that the two of you are doing well."
"We are indeed, aren't we, Gary?" Celeste immediately looked into Gary's eyes.
Her eyes were deep and a faint smile was hanging on her lips. However, the emotion in her eyes was somewhat unfathomable.
Celeste started to get a little flustered as she continued to stare at Gary. They had a mutual tacit understanding.
This was what they had to do as they didn't want others to worry about what had happened between them.
Celeste thought that since they were both adults, they had to act maturely in the event of a breakup.
"That's true," Gary just nodded simply. From the tone of his voice, it was like he had agreed to what Celeste had said.
At the very least, he looked like he was spoiling his girlfriend dearly.
They looked very loving.
Though, it was just superficial.
Gary was pretty sure that his performance with Celeste was quite impeccable.
Sure enough, after hearing that, Lowell immediately beamed widely. He seemed quite relieved to see how the couple was doing.
He didn't pick up on anything at all.
"You guys are doing fine," Lowell sighed in relief, "Seeing the two of you getting along have really made me feel relieved. I'm ready to head to the villa down the mountain. When are you guys going back?"
"In a few days."
"Tonight."
Celeste and Gary said two different things at the same time, with Celeste saying the former while Gary saying the later.
It was obvious that the chemistry between the two of them was gone.
Lowell was also slightly stunned and looked at them in surprise.
His eyes then shifted to Gary, suspicion brewing in his gaze. Why were their opinions on returning to the Jones family residence so different?
Once again, Lowell observed the couple in front of him again. Gary had a lazy smile plastered on his
face.
Meanwhile, Celeste was obviously looking stiff and uncomfortable.
