Gary went upstairs in a downcast mood, looking like he had lost all hope.
In less than three minutes, Sylvia came back looking depressed as well.
She seemed distracted and was nothing like her usual high-spirited self.
It had been a long time since Sylvia came back. She had been staying at her school during her final exams to focus on studying. There was also another reason as well.
Therefore, she only came back after her exams were over.
Now, her winter break had started.
However, none of them expected that she would look so depressed after her exams. Ernest was worried when he saw her like that.
He stepped forward and asked with concern, "What's wrong with you, Sylvia? Who bullied you? Or is it because you didn't do well in your exams?"
He recalled that she had not been overly concerned about her exam results in the past. However, she had worked really hard for the sake of a man, which was something that she had never done before.
From the look on her face, it seemed highly likely that she had not done well in her exams.
Sylvia glanced at Ernest, bit her lip with a bitter look, and suddenly let out a cry.
"Ah!"
She hugged Ernest and shouted, "Ernest, I got first place. I placed first in the entire school. I worked so hard for it, and I did it!"
"That's great! You did well to get first place, but why are you still unhappy?" Ernest was really puzzled.
Sylvia did not speak. She merely hugged Ernest as she started crying hysterically.
"I'm so sad! My heart aches!" she wailed.
"Don't say such sorrowful things. Calm down and tell me what happened," Ernest said soothingly.
Sylvia sobbed even harder. No one knew why she was crying, but they could sense that she was utterly devastated as if her whole world had collapsed.
"Sylvia, don't cry. What happened? This doesn't seem like tears of happiness, is it?" Ernest held her shoulder and looked down at her. She was sobbing miserably.
Sylvia wiped her tears and muttered, "But, he already has a girlfriend. I saw his girlfriend today."
"He?" Ernest was stunned.
He knew at once that she was referring to Kendrix. "He has a girlfriend? Doesn't that mean he was toying with your feelings?" Ernest asked anxiously. The moment he said that, Leah tugged on his sleeve.
Ernest turned around to look at her.
Leah felt that there had already been a lot of things going on in the Jones family. Grace was already so worried, and would only get more worried now that something had happened to Sylvia too.
"What's going on?" Grace asked. "If something happened, just tell us. Don't just cry. What on earth happened?"
Sylvia stiffened. She turned around and glanced at Grace, but she did not say anything.
Ernest saw Grace staring at them with a frown, seeming very anxious. He immediately recalled that she was pregnant and that she should not be worrying so much.
"Mom, don't worry. I'll bring Sylvia upstairs," said Ernest.
In a considerate tone, Leah said to Grace, "Don't worry. Leave Sylvia to us."
Grace nodded without saying anything else.
Ernest dragged Sylvia upstairs, and Leah followed closely behind.
