A Naive Bride for the Sophisticated CEO novel Chapter 23

Amelia got to the company very early in the morning. She got to her table and arranged everywhere. James was yet to arrive, and she was happy she got to the company before him.

‘I’m going to try my best not to piss him off.’

She took a look at her outfit and smiled. She was dressed in a yellow T-shirt and a very tight blue skirt that stopped directly on top of her knee. Her flat shoes were black. Her t-shirt refused to remain tucked in her shirt because her skirt was too tight. As she walked, it kept pulling out.

‘I believe this is a better look. He would be surprised to see me wearing something fitted.’ Amelia thought excitedly.

She sat on her chair and placed her bag on the table. She pulled out the file James had given her and began to read through it again.

She stayed up all night to make sure she covered everything in the file. She just wanted to brush through to refresh her memory.

She was still reading when she heard the elevator open. ‘He is here!’

She sprang to her feet and pulled her skirt down. She gulped and folded her hands in front of her.

She looked at the hallway, expecting James to pop out, but Freddie came into sight instead.

“Uncle Freddie?” She called in surprise, and he bounced his head with a grin.

“Baby Amelia.”

He opened his arms and she ran into his arms and hugged him tightly.

“What are you doing here? I missed you so much,” Amelia said and looked at his face.

“I missed you so much too, Amelia. I’m sorry I haven’t visited you since you left the house. I have been so busy.”

Amelia let out an affectionate smile and took two steps backwards away from him.

“I understand, Uncle. I’m happy you are here now.”

“Hmm, you look different today. Stepping up your fashion game, hun?” He asked, and she chuckled.

“Something like that. Is it good?” She asked, making a quick turn.

“Trust me, everything you do is good, Amelia. Lest I forget, I’m so sorry about what happened to you last night. Mr. Charles called me to tell me. I got you a new phone on my way here.”

Freddie walked to Amelia’s desk and opened his briefcase. “Your boss is yet to arrive?” He further asked, and Amelia bounced her head.

“Uncle, you didn’t have to buy another for me. I still have some cash.”

Freddie shook his head and pulled out the black IPhone X he had gotten for her.

“The cash would serve other things, okay? I don’t mind getting a cellphone for you. Here, have it.”

He stretched the carton to her, and she collected it from him with full happiness.

“Thank you so much, Uncle. I love you.”

She moved closer to him and planted a kiss on his cheek. Freddie chuckled and locked his briefcase.

“I can’t stay long, Amelia. Mr. Charles and I have a meeting in an hour, and I still have to get to my company first.”

Amelia nodded and placed the phone on her table.

“Can you thank Mr. Charles for me? Him and his wife treated me like their daughter last night. Mr. Charles drove me home.”

Freddie looked at her and raised his eyebrows. “Really? Well, I’m not surprised Charles is so nice to you. Once he likes you, he will always be nice. But his wife? He doesn’t have a wife.”

“Oh yes, that’s true. His ex-wife. I’m sorry.”

Freddie smiled and shook his head as they both headed to the elevator.

“It’s fine, Amelia. I’m happy you succeeded in getting into James’ heart. So how did you get what he loves the most?” He asked, and she furrowed her eyebrows.

“I haven’t succeeded in getting into his heart, Uncle. I mean, he hates my guts, and I’m still not close to knowing what he loves the most.”

“Really? That is weird. Charles told me he signed our contract last night.”

“What?! Really?! So I’m free?”

“Free? Hell no! You need to keep working here, Amelia. Aren’t you happy you have finally secured a good job? You can finally survive without your uncle. Moreover, this isn’t the last business I and the Parkers would do together. You can’t ruin the opportunity we have now.”

Amelia heaved a sigh and bounced her head. She punched the elevator button and waited for the door to open up.

‘He still didn’t give a shit about me last night. What made him sign the contract?’

The elevator opened and Freddie stepped into it.

“Hey, I saved my number on your phone already. Call me as soon as you get home. I got a SIM card for you too. I have your number already.”

Amelia bounced her head and waved at Freddie as the elevator closed.

‘So Mr. Charles hasn’t told him about what we discussed last night?’

She exhaled softly and walked back to her table. She sat and picked up the carton, she opened it and switched on her phone.

As she waited for it to come on. She remembered how she got robbed and her body hairs stood in reaction to her thought. She shivered and shook off the thought.

The phone came on and she broadly smiled.

“I’ll ask him for his phone number again when he arrives,” She told herself as she scrolled through the phone.

Soon she perceived a familiar scent, and she lifted her head to see James standing in front of his office. He was opening the door.
