Bride Behind the Mask novel Chapter 787

Living in the same gated community as Silas? Over my dead body!

It's not that Maggie despised Silas per se; it was the weird, unexplainable feelings that bubbled up whenever he was around, making her thoughts drift to Frederick uncontrollably. But Maggie knew all too well that the dead don't return, and she wasn’t about to replace him with anyone.

However, the idea of seeing Silas's daughter, Margot, again did spark some excitement in Maggie. Despite the girl's wild antics, her chubby cheeks were simply irresistible. Maggie could almost picture her munching on a drumstick, a sight so heartwarming it brought a smile to her face.

Chuck, catching this rare smile, blurted out in surprise, "Maggie, you smiled?"

"Am I not allowed to?" Maggie retorted, her eyebrow raised in bemusement.

"No, no, it's just... surprising, that's all. You haven’t really smiled like that since Mr. Winston and Teresa passed," Chuck explained.

Really? Maggie hadn’t noticed. But Chuck, as an outsider, saw it clearly. He wasn’t suggesting Maggie never smiled, but rather that her smiles seemed mechanical, devoid of real emotion, until now.

What were they talking about again? Oh, right. Silas.

Seizing the moment, Chuck ventured, "Maggie, if Mr. Winston could see you from above, he’d want you to find happiness again, perhaps with a good man."

Maggie looked at Chuck, puzzled. "And your point is?"

Chuck swallowed nervously, "Well, as far as I know, Silas is single too. According to my research, he has no romantic ties, though he does have a daughter..."

Maggie nearly choked on her own disbelief, "You think Mr. Winston, barely half a year in his grave, would appreciate you matchmaking his widow?"
