Bride Behind the Mask novel Chapter 788

Marguerite was momentarily taken aback, sensing a surprising strength in the grip that held her. The hand was masculine, with well-defined bones and veins that were visible on the exposed forearm, hinting at raw power beneath the skin.

Shaking off her initial surprise, Marguerite turned to see the owner of the hand. He wore a black mask, concealing any scars beneath, with only his eyes and forehead visible. Despite the mask, there was an undeniable rugged charm about him.

Silas!

It was almost uncanny how she seemed to bump into him wherever she went.

Marguerite sized him up, noting his casual attire of a loose white shirt paired with light blue jeans, exuding a laid-back yet rebellious vibe. The shirt was wrinkle-free, silky to the touch, suggesting he had changed recently.

To Silas, encountering her in the supermarket was an unexpected surprise.

Marguerite, however, was quick to confront him, her voice laced with hostility, "Are you stalking me? Why can't I shake you off?"

Initially silent, Silas then casually retrieved a strip of painkillers from his pocket, popping a few into his mouth covered by the mask, and chewed them nonchalantly.

Marguerite was puzzled.

What was with this man and his constant consumption of painkillers? Was he suffering from some incurable disease?

Before she could dwell further, Silas tucked the painkillers back into his bag and flashed his smartphone screen at Marguerite. "My daughter's menu for the week. I'm on grocery duty."

On the screen, Marguerite saw a list of dishes, all involving chicken in various preparations, written in a child's scrawling handwriting. It oddly reminded her of Teresa, whose writing was similarly askew despite Marguerite's frequent reminders.

"I'm not following you," Silas clarified earnestly, his eyes conveying sincerity.
