Although Miss Symons' approach was unconventional, Veronica's role as the second female lead in "The General's Lonely Daughter" implied that key scenes would revolve around the main characters, Eviette Robins and Camden Sullivan. Therefore, her excuses were barely acceptable.
Matthew remained silent.
Veronica sighed. "If I had known it would cause so much trouble, I wouldn't have taken on the role."
Seeing her despondent expression, Matthew smiled gently and reassured her, "Since you've made the decision, you must see it through."
With the company facing challenging issues, Matthew worried Veronica might inquire about its affairs. As he contemplated how to keep it from her, an unexpected twist occurred: she was suddenly scheduled for a closed-door training session.
Twenty-one days should suffice, he pondered.
"What choice do I have but to see it through? Giving up midway would only upset Miss Symons," Veronica replied with a wry smile. Changing the subject, she asked, "And how about you? How's the company doing these days?"
"Everything is going well," Matthew replied calmly.
Veronica took his word at face value. "That's good. I..."
Before she could finish her sentence, a voice shouted outside the dressing room, "Veronica, hurry up! The car is here to pick you up. It's time to go."
"Oh, okay. I'm coming."
Veronica turned to address the voice outside the dressing room, then looked back at Matthew. "I have to go. Actually, I wanted to tell you this last night, but I didn't know how to bring it up."
"It's just a closed-door training, not like we're parting ways forever. Don't worry, I'll visit you whenever I get the chance," Matthew reassured her.
Veronica nodded. "Okay, bye. Don't miss me too much."
She gazed at Matthew on her phone screen, her eyes betraying a hint of reluctance.
Matthew, on the other hand, lifted his phone and pressed a kiss on the screen. "I'll miss you."
As he spoke, he heard the crew members urging Veronica on her end, prompting him to interject, "Hurry up, don't keep them waiting."
"Okay, goodbye."
With a wave, Veronica rose from her seat and headed toward the dressing room door. "Matt, I'll miss you."
"Okay."
"Bye."
