Nocturne nodded in agreement.
Esther, with tears in her eyes, said, "Nocturne, I don't want you to leave."
After saying that, Esther hugged Nocturne tightly. Nocturne didn't say anything, but he comforted her by gently patting her back. Agnes watched the scene unfold, feeling like it was straight out of a late-night soap opera. Only, the protagonists seemed a bit young for the roles.
Jenny walked over and said, "Esther, don't be so sad. Your brother Nocturne is just moving to Willowbrook Town. We're moving there too, and it's not far. You guys can still see each other often."
Esther's face lit up with joy: "Really?"
Jenny smiled and said, "Of course, it's true. Agnes’s parents are friends with yours, so they'll definitely bring Nocturne over for visits."
Esther clapped her hands happily. Full of anticipation, Esther asked Agnes, "Agnes, you’ll bring Nocturne over to my place, right?"
Agnes, seeing the child's innocent expression, couldn't bear to shatter her hopes. Agnes nodded, "Of course, you and Nocturne will definitely see each other often."
Agnes thought to herself that Nocturne was going to start school soon. And so was Esther. The best preschools in Willowbrook Town were only a handful. It was very likely they'd end up at the same school, and with a little effort, getting them into the same class wouldn’t be a problem. That way, they could continue to be best friends.
With that, they went their separate ways. On the way back, Agnes felt a heavy heart.
Jared said, "I never expected it to be so dramatic. Esther turns out to be their daughter."
Agnes let out a deep sigh, "Esther is so pure-hearted, I just hope Jenny doesn’t let her own scheming affect her."
"What I'm afraid of is that Jenny doesn’t really see her as her daughter, but more like a bargaining chip."
It turned out Jared had noticed it too. Agnes felt a pang of sadness thinking about Esther’s joyous and excited face. What future lay ahead for that child?
Upon returning to Willowbrook Town that night, Agnes quickly took care of two things. One was to resign from her job at the TV station. The other was to get Nocturne enrolled in school.
Nocturne was enrolled in Rainbow Bridge Preschool. Actually, given Nocturne's intelligence, preschool wasn’t really necessary. But Agnes wasn’t looking for him to learn anything specific. She hoped more people would enter his life. Agnes didn’t want Nocturne to become like Nate. A genius with a high IQ, but a recluse who refused to engage with society.
Speaking of Nate. Agnes had been in touch with him a lot lately. Since Phenix and Kearney had disappeared, Nate had been tracking their whereabouts. And just yesterday, there was a breakthrough. Phenix and Kearney were now at a vineyard in Porto, Australia. Agnes had suspected as much. This clue was also provided to Nate by Agnes. Because Phenix's greatest desire was to retire to the countryside with Sean. And now, she had started seeing Kearney as Sean. They had most likely gone there.
But Agnes wasn't sure about their current situation. Was Phenix still treating Kearney as Sean? If so, that could be considered a form of happiness. The real fear was waking up from a dream, unable to accept the reality. Agnes decided to visit the vineyard with Nate soon to check on them.
