Heartstrings on Fire novel Chapter 1230

As Elton walked by, he suddenly grabbed Jenny's arm. With a mix of anger and helplessness in his eyes, Elton glared at her. "What are you up to now?"

Bursting into laughter, Jenny retorted, "Oh, Elton, that was pretty obvious, don’t you think? I haven’t even done anything yet, and here you are, all defensive. You keep saying you don’t care anymore, that you don’t want to disrupt her life. Who are you trying to fool?"

Her words struck Elton like a knife to the heart, a reminder of the daily battle he fought convincing himself of his own indifference. Feeling an inexplicable surge of irritation, Elton snapped, "Jenny, stop slinging mud. And whatever is going on between Agnes and me, it’s none of your business."

But Jenny just smiled, her demeanor still seemingly gentle. "Agnes, you say? It rolls off your tongue so naturally, so affectionately. She’s Mrs. Whitfield now, and Mr. Whitfield is right here. They’re happily married, living a blissful life. Elton, no matter what sordid thoughts you harbor, you won't succeed."

Jenny’s words were harsh, yet her face was all smiles. Elton was truly infuriated. "I don’t harbor any thoughts, Jenny. It’s you who keeps meddling in other people’s lives. What’s your real agenda?"

"Elton, I’ve told you before, I want you," Jenny declared.

"And you think you can have me?" Elton retorted with biting sarcasm, neither willing to back down.

Jenny’s smile vanished, replaced by a look filled with scorn. "Elton, whether you think I can have you or not, marry me, and I’ll ruin everything you love. Whatever you care about, I’ll destroy. I have more money and time than I could ever use. I’ll wear you down until you give in!"

Jenny’s confidence was unshakeable. Elton, gripping Jenny’s arm tighter and staring into her smug face, finally spat out through clenched teeth, "Vile woman!"

Jenny continued, "Elton, my demands aren’t unreasonable. Don’t you want to give Esther a family? Our daughter is so adorable. Yet, you’re never satisfied, always longing for what isn’t yours. Do you think the whole world doesn’t know your dark desires? I’m going to make them known. I’m going to show you how vile and disgraceful you are. Elton, I’m showing you that we’re cut from the same cloth. Only with me can you be your true self. With my power now, I’m the only one who can help you reach the top. I’m not the helpless Jenny of the past. Now, I’m your equal, a woman worthy of your love."

Elton’s voice was ice-cold: "Dream on. You haven’t changed in my eyes. You seem to forget how you got this status and wealth. You're not ashamed, but I am for you. Even if you were the last woman on Earth, you’d never catch my eye." Elton's words were equally venomous.
