The only solace in the whole mess was that Esther's wish had come true. Kids, after all, dream of growing up in a complete, original family. But Agnes couldn't really say if that was a good thing or not. Elton's gaze landed on Agnes as she turned to leave. Suddenly, he found himself chasing after her. Jenny wanted to stop him, but after a few steps, she halted. She had gotten what she wanted. She really owed Agnes a big one. Jenny was painfully aware of the place Agnes held in Elton's heart. They were childhood sweethearts, best friends since they were ten. The fact that Elton was still single spoke volumes. He was just too distant with her. Even using their child as an excuse, Elton was dismissive. Only Agnes could get under his skin. In Elton's world, it seemed Agnes was the only one who truly mattered. This realization infuriated Jenny. She couldn't stand any connection between Agnes and Elton. But Jenny also knew that only Agnes could make Elton break his rules. It was crystal clear to her. Elton agreeing to marry her was just to give Agnes some peace and quiet. He just wanted to protect the one in his heart, to keep her out of the mess. That had prompted his hasty agreement. Though the journey was less than ideal, she had the outcome she desired. And with time, she was determined to change everything. Deep down, Jenny was happy. So, watching Elton chase after Agnes didn't bother her as much. Let them clear the air; it was probably for the best. Agnes must have felt terrible witnessing that scene. Even though Agnes had married Jared, Jenny felt Agnes still held a place for Elton in her heart. It wasn't long before Elton caught up with Agnes in the hallway. "Agnes, I need to talk to you." Agnes turned, her expression eerily calm, "What do you want to say?" What did he want to say? Elton wasn't sure. It felt like an automatic reaction to chase after her. It was like a flashback to their school days when Agnes would storm off in a huff, and he knew he had to make amends. No matter the argument, if Agnes walked away, he couldn't sit still for three minutes without going after her. For a moment, Elton had been driven by those old feelings. But now, facing Agnes's calm demeanor, reality hit him. Lately, he found himself reminiscing a lot. Their past played over in his mind like a movie, but he knew their film had long since ended. All that was left was a solo performance directed and acted by himself. Elton's smile held a trace of bitterness, "Agnes, is there really nothing you want to say to me?" Agnes chuckled, "You chased after me to say you needed to talk, and now you're asking if I have anything to say?" She bit her lip, a hint of awkwardness on her face, "I've already said what I needed to. Since you've decided to marry Jenny, I wish you both the best." Those were the last words Elton wanted to hear. He felt a profound sense of desolation. Seeing Elton's reaction, Agnes felt uncomfortable too. Because she could see Elton's displeasure with Jenny.
