Heartstrings on Fire novel Chapter 1232

The hallway was already quiet. In an instant, Agnes felt as though the world had gone even quieter. As if everything else had vanished. Leaving only the two figures before her and Elton's words echoing over and over in her mind. Agnes knew she wasn't hearing things. Elton had actually agreed. He had actually agreed to marry Jenny. Agnes couldn't fathom how things had escalated to this moment so suddenly. Just moments ago, the pair had been at each other's throats, looking as though they could kill each other. In fact, their demeanor hadn't changed much. They still looked like they wanted to murder one another. But Elton had agreed nonetheless. Agnes couldn't wrap her head around what was going through Elton's mind, how things had taken such a dramatic turn. Their argument had given Agnes a headache. Yet, Jenny managed to drag her into it, sentence by sentence. And now, this was the outcome, leaving Agnes feeling incredibly conflicted. But upon further reflection, it didn't seem all that surprising. Given what Agnes knew of Elton from the past. He was sometimes a person who detested hassle and could be quite extreme. He must have been fed up with Jenny's persistence and decided to just give in to her wishes. Jenny, too, was stunned for a good ten seconds. She hadn't expected Elton to agree so quickly. Without any effort. She had been prepared to entangle with him for years. But he had suddenly agreed. This left Jenny momentarily unable to react. Elton had already let go of Jenny, his hands anything but gentle. Jenny nearly fell to the ground but managed to steady herself after stepping back a couple of times. Elton said, “Jenny, you just want that marriage certificate, right? Since you want it, I'll give it to you. But what does marrying me change? I still despise you like a venomous snake. If you want to live in misery, I'll grant you that wish. Just don't regret it!” How could she regret it? She would never regret it. This had been her biggest dream to date. To date. She still remembered the basketball court, his soaring figure as he played, and the carefree smile on his face. Being near him was like being near a world of light. And now, he had actually agreed to marry her. Jenny's euphoria was almost uncontrollable. In fact, she had almost married Elton once before. Elton saying he despised her like a venomous snake didn't matter. She and Elton had a daughter together, a bond of blood between them. Just to be by Elton's side. Jenny believed that someday, Elton would change his mind. Back then, Elton hadn't really despised her. Especially now, when her wealth far surpassed that of the Taylor family. Jenny turned to look at Agnes, who was still in shock. A smirk appeared on Jenny's lips: “Agnes, Elton and I are getting married soon. Aren't you going to congratulate me?” Agnes had also come to her senses. Having witnessed the whole spectacle, she found it absurd and tragic yet felt compelled to say, “Well, congratulations then.” Agnes added, “I'm going to check on the kids.” In that moment, Agnes didn't know what else to say. Everything she had wanted to say before, now that Elton had decided to marry Jenny, seemed utterly meaningless. Agnes decided it was best to say nothing at all.
