He was snapped out of his trance when someone called out his name.
"Tianyi."
Feng Tianyi turned to the voice with his obsidian eyes, his gaze almost lower in shame as he saw his mother make her way towards him.
"How have you been? " Song Huifen sat across him and crossed her legs. The woman was already past sixty and yet her cold demeanor and royal stance didn't show that she was already at that age.
"Same as always, Mother." Feng Tianyi muttered, refusing to meet the old woman's eyes. "I'm fine."
"No, you are not," Song Huifen scoffed and squinted her eyes on her son. "Do not lie to me, Tianyi."
"I'm not lying, Mother. Please do not waste your time on me," he murmured. His mother had been trying to convince him to go back to Shenzhen with her but he declined her wish every single time.
"You are my son. Looking after you will never be a waste of time for me. Your mother isn't getting any younger, you should know this." Song Huifen hated to see him like this. "I already booked our flight this weekend. Please go back with me." She said helplessly.
What kind of mother was she if she was going to give up on him? Although her husband divorced her to marry his mistress, Song Huifen had never abandoned the child she'd raised alone. However, that didn't mean that she would allow the child of that mistress to get everything that was supposed to be Tianyi's.
"I cannot go with you, Mother. I'm staying here." Feng Tianyi once again refused her. He already lost count on how many times his mother tried to convince him to return to Shenzhen. What was waiting for him there anyway?
"I'm fine," He reassured her knowing that she wouldn't believe him. Even if he didn't say anything, his mother seemed to know what was running in his mind.
"That lie again." Song Huifen's face darkened. "Who are you trying to convince here, Tianyi? Is it me or yourself?" She bit out.
When her son said nothing, she continued. Her son couldn't continue living like this. Of course she knew that his books were selling well and was giving him more than enough income to sustain his lifestyle.
"I don't know why you are sulking in this place. You were told that with a little work you'll be able to walk again and yet you choose to remain bounded on this chair—"
"And hide from the public?" Feng Tianyi finished for her. "I'm already done, Mother. I can never be as good as Father wants me to be. Is this why he'd chosen to pass the company to Tianhua than to give it to me, his firstborn son?"
Song Huifen's lips pressed together in a thin line and looked at her son who had dramatically changed over the past years since his accident.
"That is because you don't have what it takes to to run the company." She bit out.
It was obvious to her why her ex-husband chose Feng Tianhua to inherit the company. Her son was a vicious man before the tragedy had befall on him.
