"Mom! Didn't I just tell you? I knew there was something fishy about those two! Marilla is trying to mess up my thing with him!"
When Glynnis saw Jareth dressing Marilla in an expensive red evening gown, her heart filled with jealousy. Marilla's face was fresh and natural. No makeup was needed, and she still looked gorgeous as hell.
Even more annoying, they were both wearing the same shade of wine red, looking like a freaking couple!
Standing side by side under the bright lights, they looked like newlyweds, hogging all the attention.
Glynnis felt like her own purple dress was a slap in the face.
Red and purple, what a horrible combo!
"Marilla is my flesh and blood, I know what kind of person she is!"
Unlike Glynnis, Elspeth looked deeper into the situation. "Although Marilla is already 22, she acts like an 11-year-old kid. She's not mature enough to date, let alone steal your man. Do you think she has the guts and wits for that?"
Glynnis cooled down a bit, but she was still pissed off.
"I think it's more complicated than you think. Jareth was cold to you before, and after Hamiltion's birthday party, he probably figured out your intentions and started to dislike you. He knows Marilla is your sister, so he's getting close to her on purpose, just to piss you off."
"What?" Glynnis felt dizzy. "What should I do, Mom? Is there no hope for me to marry Mr. Jareth?"
"Now you need to be more patient than ever. Not only do you need to cooperate with Edith to get close to Jareth, but you also need to change your attitude and keep your cool. If Jareth is nice to Marilla, you should be nice to her too, show him your kind and cute side. Got it?" Elspeth gave her daughter some serious advice.
"I got it." Glynnis replied helplessly.
Meanwhile, not far away.
Marilla was looking around for Ada, her eyes wide open with excitement.
However, when she saw Edith playing the piano on stage, her eyes contracted. Her face turned pale, and she started to lose her vitality like a withering flower.
She was trembling beneath her red dress.
The countless memories of humiliation and ridicule from her childhood flooded back, and she felt a wave of despair.
"Who would be friends with a dummy like you? What the hell are you thinking about?"
"Throw her in the trash! That's where she belongs!"
"Cut off her hair! I hate any girl at school with better hair than me!"
"Even Mr. Frederic and Elspeth don't like you, and your sister despises you too. Do you think you are worthy of being Miss Abernathy? You are a disgrace to the Abernathy family!"
Disgrace. She was the disgrace!
On stage, Edith was fully focused on playing the piano, completely unaware of the pair of hateful eyes staring at her from the crowd.
Marilla's eyes were bloodshot as she hugged her teddy bear and started to back away. Cold sweat dripped from her forehead.
Suddenly, her arm was grabbed by Jareth.
"Marilla, what's wrong? Are you shy? Didn't you say you wanted to meet Ada and get her autograph? Come, let me take you to her."
However, Marilla violently shook off his hand and ran towards the door without looking back.
"Marilla! Where are you going?"
Jareth was taken aback, fearing that she might run into some danger late at night, so he ran after her.
Glynnis was fuming with anger.
Even though Elspeth told her to keep her cool, seeing Jareth caring so much for this idiot made her grind her teeth. It was too much to bear.
Marilla was filled with fear as she ran out of the hotel. She ran crazily towards the road, tears streaming down her face.
She really wanted to meet Ada, as she was used to spending many lonely nights watching movies alone.
