Could it be about Emma's burial arrangements after she was gone?
I couldn't help but let my mind wander, but only Charles knew the real answer.
It seemed that I would have to wait for another opportunity to ask him. However, that opportunity might never come.
Even though Charles and I had crossed paths twice, I knew that it was only because of the hospital. Once Emma was gone, Charles would probably never return, and in the vast sea of people in the world, we might never meet again.
I took one last look at the bed surrounded by people and silently prayed that Emma would find peace."
After leaving, I went to look for Lisa, but unfortunately, she was performing another surgery. I didn't return to the ward immediately. Instead, I went to the garden outside.
"Ms. Crown," someone called out to me.
I turned around and saw James. He was alone, and it seemed like he had run over in a hurry, as he was slightly out of breath.
I wasn't surprised that he had come to find me. "Mr. Finnegan."
"I'm sorry, Ms. Crown. Ava was distraught earlier," James apologized.
I shook my head slightly. "Mr. Finnegan, I understand."
James sighed. "We only had one daughter. Now that she's gone, we don't have a daughter anymore."
The despair in his words left me speechless.
I looked at his face. He seemed to only be in his 50s, but his hair had already turned gray.
It had been nearly two years since Emma's accident. Even though she was still breathing, she couldn't speak a word to them or call them "Mom" or "Dad". This silent pain had tormented them for almost two years.
At that moment, I started to understand why they were giving up on keeping Emma alive.
