As I leaned into Brandon, I noticed the look on Emily's face, which was anything but pleasant. Her clenched fists and the jealousy etched across her expression were hard to miss.
My heart tightened, and I instinctively called out to her, "Ms. Hansley."
Emily tore her gaze away from Lisa and Keith and turned to face me. Before I could say anything, she responded in a cold, formal tone, "The patient will be transferred to the recovery room in half an hour."
With that, she turned and walked away. I could feel her frustration and anger.
I nudged Brandon and whispered, "She's jealous."
With Ellie's surgery being a success, Brandon had finally relaxed. He squeezed my hand and said, "Yes, Mr. Marrow handled it well."
Huh?
I glanced at Keith, who was still hugging Lisa, and then I looked back at Brandon.
He nodded at me, and it finally clicked.
Keith wasn't just hugging Lisa in front of everyone because he wanted to be close to her. He was sending a clear message to someone else with hopes, reminding them of the reality. It was also his way to reassure Lisa.
If Brandon hadn't pointed it out, I wouldn't have realized it. It seemed that men really did understand each other.
"Mr. Howell, your sister lost a significant amount of blood during the surgery. She had to undergo two complete blood transfusions. Because of this, she'll need to stay in the recovery room for observation.
"The first 78 hours post-surgery are important for monitoring any signs of rejection. A nurse will be observing her closely to address any issues that may arise," Keith explained in detail.
This was professionalism at its best.
Although Brandon and I were aware of the potential for rejection, we still felt anxious. "What happens if she shows signs of rejection?"
"We have specific protocols in place to handle that. Rest assured, everything is under control," Keith replied with a calm confidence that put us at ease.
He was an expert in this field, so if he was not worried, we could also relax a little.
"Thank you, Mr. Marrow," Brandon said, expressing his gratitude once again.
Keith glanced at Lisa, who was beside him, and a smile appeared on his face. "You're Liz's friends. We're all in this together. There's no need to be so formal."
