Brandon's voice was deep and overwhelming.
My playful mood subsided as I looked at his thinner face, thinking about how he had to take care of Ellie, who had just recovered. Now he must be exhausted from having to deal with me.
I instantly lost the heart to tease him, so I pulled him closer and obediently explained, "Derick and I are just friends. I have nothing to hide, and that's why I speak so freely about him in front of you."
I realized something was off with my wording as soon as I said that, but I didn't correct it.
Not mentioning Chris didn't necessarily mean I was hiding something. It could mean I no longer cared about him.
"I know, but I still feel uncomfortable," Brandon honestly admitted.
It made sense. I'd feel uncomfortable too if he were praising someone else in front of me. I might even tell him to get out of the car.
"I'm sorry. It's my fault," I confessed meekly.
Brandon's stern expression softened. "Apologizing isn't enough for me."
I immediately caught the deeper meaning behind his words, so I leaned closer to him. "I'll make it up to you when we get back to the room."
Brandon's Adam's apple bobbed, and his ears flushed. I knew he understood.
Seeing how easy it was to tease him, my playful side returned. "Brandon, I'm tired."
"Let me carry you." He would never back away from anything that needed physical strength, but I felt too shy to have him carry me in the bustling lobby although he was willing to do it.
I shook my head. "It's just a joke. I wouldn't…"
I felt myself lifted off the ground halfway through my words, but instead of carrying me away, he placed me on top of the suitcase and pushed it.
This was a fun experience I had never had.
When I used to travel with Chris, we often had to take trips since I was his assistant, and there were many times I was exhausted from wearing high heels.
