Chapter 89 If Everyone Wanted to Win, Who Was Going to Lose?
Only when Alicia and Edmond left the hospital with Melissa did they learn that Lori and Diane had gotten into conflict, and thus, the falling from the building occurred.
Now both were in the emergency room, but the one in charge of Diane was just a trainee...
Getting into the taxi, Alicia sat in the back seat, hugging the unconscious Melissa.
Edmond was on the phone in the passenger seat, and perhaps he had known someone in the higher-up of another hospital. He managed to arrange everything quickly, and now the hospital awaited Melissa's arrival.
Alicia had not spoken a single word.
She seemed to be in a daze.
Edmond thought for a long while before squeezing out a word of comfort.
"Don't worry. I'll do what I can." Edmond reassured Alicia.
Alicia was silent for a long time before she slowly spoke up.
"I feel so tired," Alicia said.
There was a hint of sarcasm and sadness in her voice.
Edmond did not utter a word.
The driver dared not even breathe and silently prayed that the unconscious elderly lady behind him would not pass away in his car. Otherwise, that would be very unlucky.
Alicia choked back a sob before continuing.
"I'm a very competitive person and have always enjoyed to compete with others since I was young. I don't want to lose, so I've managed to win everything but nothing I have winned... Just now, I suddenly feel so ridiculous, like I'm a fool."
There were many people like this in the world.
They thought of life as an arena and every day was a competition.
In school, they competed with their grades. In love, they competed over who would give in first, while love rivals competed over who was more attractive to capture their man's eye. In society, they competed for who would earn more.
Even in hospital operating theaters, they had to compete for it...
If everyone wanted to win, who was going to lose?
So what if one were to win?
At that moment, Alicia felt so exhausted that she did not want to compete anymore. She just wanted her mother to survive and the people she cared for to be well.
That was all.

Edmond was very efficient.
He usually seemed so cynical, but he was always the most reliable when things really happened.
The taxi dropped them off at the neighboring hospital, and the hospital personnel that Edmond had contacted earlier were already there to pick up Melissa and take her to the emergency room.
The whole process was smooth and professional.
Alicia seldom felt so helpless, but at this point, she could not do anything except sign some documents at the registration counter.
Edmond and a few doctors discussed Melissa's situation. He passed them various medical reports, and all the terminology they were discussing was something that Alicia could not understand.
When she came to her senses, the operating room lights were already lit, and Edmond had pulled her to sit and wait on a bench.
"I don't work here, so they won't let me do the surgery." Edmond apologized.
Alicia tightly grabbed Edmond's hand and replied, "It's fine. You've already done a lot for me."
"Calm yourself down. Don't get too worked up." Edmond comforted her.
