Rachel had really no appetite today. And now that she saw and smelled all the food on the table, she felt her stomach churning. She couldn't eat anything at all.
On the other hand, Celia was enjoying her food so much. She picked up a scallop, dipped it in mustard sauce, and put it into her mouth. Squinting her eyes while chewing leisurely, a satisfied expression surfaced on her face.
But when she noticed that Rachel was only sitting motionlessly, she asked, "Rachel, why are you not eating? Why are you just staring at me like that? I feel quite embarrassed."
"Oh, really?" Rachel teased her while picking up a scallop with her chopsticks and put it in her mouth. However, before she could even chew it, her stomach felt sick. She quickly put down her chopsticks and rushed to the bathroom.
"Rachel, are you okay?"
Celia asked as she grabbed several tissues from the table and caught up with her.
Rachel weakly pressed her hands on the sink for support. She had never vomited like this for a long time, so she felt uncomfortable all over her body. She tried her best to calm down. Celia stood behind her, gently patting her back. When she saw that Rachel had calmed down a little, she hurriedly handed her a tissue. But seeing Rachel's pale face, she panicked and asked, "Rachel, shall we go to the hospital? You're now on the second quarter of your pregnancy, aren't you? Do you feel anything strange or uncomfortable?"
Seeing the nervousness on Celia's face, Rachel wanted to say that she was fine, but she really didn't have the strength to speak.
She held Celia's hand to comfort her. After a while, she said with a weak smile, "I'm fine. Maybe I'm just a little tired because I went to the hospital for my prenatal checkup today."
"I'll drive you home now so you can rest." Celia couldn't help feeling regretful as she supported Rachel out of the bathroom.
Rachel nodded. But after thinking for a while, she said slowly, "Let's go to your house instead so I can rest immediately. Your house is nearer."
The truth was, she didn't want to go home yet because she didn't want to see Jack now.
Meanwhile, Jack had just driven back home. From his car, he could see that the living room was dark. He frowned and looked at the time. It was only six o'clock in the evening.
As soon as he entered the house, there was only a faint light coming from the kitchen. He went there and saw that Julie was busy making some dumplings.
He asked in a low voice, "Where is Rachel?"
"Mr. Fu, you are back." Julie hurriedly put down the dumpling in her hand, turned around, and said, "Miss Shen received a call from her friend before dinner, so she went out. She hasn't come back yet."
His face suddenly darkened. "Which friend?"
"I don't know, Mr. Fu." Julie didn't dare to say anything more. She turned around and continued on making dumplings.
Jack's eyebrows were drawn together tightly as he took out his phone and called Rachel. However, he had tried calling several times, but she didn't answer.
Rachel had been resting in the bed for quite a while now, so she finally felt comfortable. Her phone under the pillow buzzed and vibrated a few times. But when she took it to check, the screen suddenly turned black before she could even see who was calling. The phone ran out of battery.
She shouted to Celia, who was in the living room, "Celia, do you have a charger? My phone is dead."
"Wait. I'll take it there." Celia put down the melon seeds she was eating and looked through her bag. She had already turned her bag upside down, but she couldn't see her charger. She patted her forehead and said shyly, "Rachel, I left my charger in the hospital. I'll get it back now. Wait for me here."
"No, it's okay. Don't bother." Rachel lifted the quilt and got out of the bed. "I'm going home now."
Jack had been calling for more than twenty times when Rachel's phone suddenly turned off.
Walking back and forth in the living room, he was lost in thought. After thinking for a while, he decided to call Lea. "Where are you now?"
"Why are you asking my wife where she is?" Unexpectedly, Henry's voice came at the other end of the line.
Jack pinched between his eyebrows and said, "Rachel went out and hasn't come back yet. I'm calling her, but her phone is off. I just thought she is with Lea."
"I don't think so. Lea and I brought Rita to the park today. We just came back home," Henry said. "Lea is giving Rita a bath right now. I'll ask her later."
"No need. Thanks."
Jack heaved an irritated sigh. Since Rachel was not with Lea, he couldn't think of anyone else that she might be seeing outside. Feeling anxious, he couldn't just wait for her to come home anymore. So he picked up his car keys and strode to the door. But before he could go out, he heard the sound of a car pulling up at the front door.
Rachel got out of the taxi and walked into the house. Since she was looking downwards, she didn't notice Jack, who suddenly stopped her.
He asked in a cold voice, "Where have you been? Why are you not answering your phone?"
Rachel gave him a cold glare. Every time she saw him, she would remember that woman who looked like her in the restaurant. It made her feel sick.
She walked past him expressionlessly and continued to walk into the room.
Jack grabbed her arm and said through clenched teeth, "Rachel, I'm asking you. Can't you even answer me?"
