My Darling, My Dearest novel Chapter 438

Scarlett sleepily opened and rubbed her eyes. Upon getting up, she realized that Jack was looking at her with a frown on his face. She reached out to touch his temple.

The moment that she moved, Jack took a step back. His frown turned into a look of pure disgust. She sneered, "Do you really hate me that much? If that's the case, why do you even want me to be with you?"

The lines on Jack's face deepened. However, he was not in the mood to stand there and listen to her nonsense.

He was heading to the bathroom when Scarlett grabbed him by the arm. Tears were streaming down her face. She demanded hysterically, "How come you never touch me even when you're drunk? What on earth do you want me to do, Jack?"

Before she could even finish talking, he produced a wallet from his pocket. He took out a bank card from it and handed it to her. "It's all yours. The password is the same as last time. I don't want to hear this nonsense anymore!"

It was happening all over again!

He behaved just like he had the last time. Still, Scarlett took the card. She tightened her hold on it, and the pain felt good.

In the cafe, Kailey had already found a seat. As soon as she spotted Scarlett, she raised her hand to call her attention. "Scarlett, here!" she called out to her cousin, who immediately approached.

She glanced at the menu, then turned it over and slid it across the table. Smiling, she said, "I don't know what you want, so I haven't ordered yet."

Scarlett took off her scarf and sat down opposite Kailey. "Why have you called me over in such a hurry?"

She ordered a cup of coffee and returned the menu to the waiter. When the waiter left, Scarlett looked up at her cousin, waiting for an answer.

Kailey rubbed her eyes and licked her lips. Then she lowered her head and stared at her hands. It was clear that she wanted to say something, but, on second thought, decided against it. Scarlett frowned. "Tell me what happened. Don't be like this."

"It's about my shop..."

Kailey didn't run a clothing store or a dessert shop with her friend. Instead, the two of them had opened a small bar, believing that this would help them earn much faster.

Scarlett quietly took a sip of the coffee, which the waiter had just served. She waited for her cousin to continue.

Kailey explained, "It's currently being redecorated, but we have accidentally spent too much on it. Now, we don't have enough left over to purchase any of the other goods that we need. I was wondering if I could borrow more from you. " Before Scarlett could say anything, Kailey stretched out her hand and waved five fingers in front of her. "This time, I'm asking that you lend me this. You are so well-off now. It won't be hard to loan me such an amount, right?"

"Fifty thousand dollars?" Scarlett asked, hiding her irritation. She had the presence of mind to keep herself from rolling her eyes.

Kailey smiled sheepishly. "No. I need five hundred thousand dollars."

"What?" Scarlett screamed, pounding on the table with both hands.

She stood up in disbelief. Immediately, Kailey held her hand and motioned for her to sit back down. "Scarlett, you're making a scene. Everyone's looking at you."

Scarlett cleared her throat and straightened her clothes in an attempt to pretend that nothing had happened. She sat down and looked grimly at Kailey. "Do you think I'm a fool? You've taken a million dollars from me, and now you're asking for another five hundred thousand dollars. How can I produce all this?" "Scarlett, don't lie to me. The clothes you bought at the mall alone were worth that amount. Isn't that right?"

Kailey was playing the same card again. She put her hands together in front of her as if in prayer. "You only have to ask Jack. It's as easy as that. In any case, I wouldn't know where to get the money that I need. If I don't have the additional five hundred thousand dollars, the one million from you would be put to waste. Do you want that to happen?"

Upon hearing this, Scarlett let out a heavy sigh. After some thought, she said, helplessly, "Okay, I'll transfer the amount to your account tomorrow."

Meanwhile, Rachel seemed to have found peace. All these articles about Jack had been on the Internet for so many days. Eventually, everyone grew tired of them. The novelty had worn off, and people's interest in him had gradually faded away. Now, people were hearing much less about him and Scarlett. Articles about them now appeared only once every two or three days.

And she hadn't seen Jack since that day.

Julie mentioned him occasionally. During late-night trips to the kitchen when she needed water, she had seen Jack's car parked in the yard. Each time, he simply sat in the car.

Rachel didn't know what he intended to do, and she wasn't interested in knowing. Today, Rachel slowly fixed her clothes and carefully sat up. The doctor set the instruments down onto a tray and said with a smile, "Your baby is in good condition. Everything's normal. There's nothing to worry about."

"Thank you, doctor."

Rachel had always been told that her belly was too small. At first, she had been worried that she wasn't eating well, leading to the malnourishment of her baby. Hearing the doctor's words today brought her immense relief.

Julie, who was standing beside them, took the B ultrasound report, folded it neatly. She reached out a hand to help Rachel up. Beaming with delight, she asked, "Miss, how about we go to the supermarket together and see if there's anything there that you'd like?"
