My Darling, My Dearest novel Chapter 439

In her heart, Rachel knew that Jack was not a fool, nor was he a person who let other people do whatever they wanted no matter how wrong. Why did other people's impression of him change completely, then?

Rachel felt uneasy thinking about this matter.

After several long moments of second-guessing herself, she dialed Jack's number. Unexpectedly, the call was answered soon after the first ring by a gentle, feminine voice.

Scarlett glanced at the closed bathroom door, through which the sound of water could be heard. On the other side of that door, Jack was taking a shower.

Jack usually brought his mobile phone with him when he took a shower. Today, however, he left the phone on the bed. She heard the phone vibrate when she entered the room and was about to give him the phone when she saw Rachel's name on the screen. Her mind suddenly formulated some mischief.

Jack's phone in hand, she stepped out of the room and said in a shy voice, "Jack's in the bathroom taking a shower. Do you want to leave a message for him? I can pass it on once he's done."

At the sound of that sweet voice, Rachel couldn't say a word. She hung up the phone. With a bitter smile on her face, she berated herself for having free time to worry about someone else's business.

Scarlett heard the beep signaling the end of a call and smiled smugly. It was about time for Jack to be done with his shower, so she deleted the call log from the phone and placed it back to its original position. Then, she hurriedly exited the bedroom and parked herself on the sofa to watch TV, as if nothing had happened just minutes ago.

She didn't say anything after she accepted Jack's bank card, but that didn't mean that she would let it go.

She was still determined to get Jack.

Jack vaguely heard his phone ring while he was in the shower, but the only call logged on the phone when he checked was Austin's call an hour ago. There was no new record, so he didn't dwell on it, thinking that he might have misheard. He took out a new set of clothes from the wardrobe, changed into them, and left the house again.

An hour later, a private room of a tea house was host to a tea party for five or six people. The guests were all CEOs of several companies, and some business dealings were usually concluded in these meetings.

Normally, Jack wouldn't waste his time to attend such a gathering, He made an exception that day when he recognized a photo of a man in a document brought by Austin —it was the man who had dinner with Rachel and Jimmy the other day at the hotel.

Noticing Jack's silence, Austin thought that he didn't want to go and so said, "Mr. Fu, I'll call someone later to cancel your attendance to the tea party."

Unexpectedly, Jack frowned and put down the documents in his hand. He raised his hand and said, "No, I'll go."

Jack opened the door to the private room and saw an ancient wooden tea table in the middle of the room. A lady in a cheongsam sitting at the table was elegantly busy preparing tea.

There were several old-fashioned chairs around table, and the rest of the guests were already seated. Jack was the latest to arrive.

As soon as he came in, the people in the room stood up one after another. A stout man walked up to him with a smile and said, "Mr. Fu, it's great that you can finally come today. It was unfortunate that you couldn't attend our previous meetings. We were actually discussing whether to change the schedule for the party if you wouldn't be able to make it so that everyone would be available. We have to get together no matter what, right?"

Jack gave the man a faint smile at his ingratiating gesture. He walked over to the empty chair and sat down. Then, he took the tea cup offered by the lady and took a sip.

He looked up at the figure at the far end of the right side of the table and said with a smile, "There's a newcomer with us today. Why don't you introduce him?"

"Oh, yes, yes, I was so happy to see Mr. Fu that I forgot about him."

The fat man patted his nearly bald head, walked to Jared, gestured toward him, and said, "This is Jared Chen, the new CEO of XG Electric Appliance Group. His father has retired not a long time ago, and he came here today to make friends with us."

Although Jared had just taken over the position of CEO, he had been a manager of the group for many years and was very knowledgeable about his trade. By observing this scene, he could tell that Jack was the most powerful one among them. After the other man did the introductions, he quickly offered a business card with both hands. "Mr. Fu, I hope we can work together in the future."

"Well, I hope so, too."

Jack waved his hand and motioned for everyone to sit down. Then, he took another sip of tea and quietly listened to the shoptalk around him. Everyone started discussing the latest developments in their respective business circles.

At this time, a man wearing glasses laughed and said, "Jared, I heard this news recently, and I don't know if it's true."

"What news?" Jared asked.

The man stroked his chin and said in a gossipy tone, "I heard that your company is cooperating with a small electric appliance store and sold them your products at the factory price. We are curious-who is the owner of this small electric appliance store? How could you willingly involve yourself in a losing business?"

Jared lowered his head and smiled without answering.

The fat man who had just spoken immediately echoed, "I've heard about it, too, but I heard that it was not the store owner who was running the play backstage, but a doctor. When she spoke as their middleman, Jared didn't say a word and just agreed."

"Really?" The rest of the guest asked and then started discussing among themselves. Jared retorted, "That was quite the exaggeration. That's a rumor spread by outsiders."
