All Janine ever felt toward her biological daughter was disappointment.
She thought they would never see each other again, but unexpectedly, she came knocking on their door today.
Maisy laughed wildly and manically for a moment, then stared at Skylar venomously. "Didn't you tell Mom? Didn't you know where I was? When I called you for help, what did you do? Tell Mom everything."
"I don't need Skye to tell me. I know where you were. You and Kenny were trafficked to Askea by Christopher. The police contacted me about it at one point," Janine said in a low voice.
Maisy was stunned.
Skylar was also a bit surprised. Janine had never mentioned this over the past few years.
So, she had known all along.
"You're my mother. You knew I was trafficked and tortured, yet you didn't try to rescue me? You just stand idly by? Are you even my mother?" Maisy shouted, almost tearing her throat.
What did she do wrong to end up like this?
Skylar had two brothers who adored her, plus a mother and a younger brother who loved her. Maisy only had herself.
Surviving those years of inhumane torment was a miracle. If she hadn't been smart enough, she would have ended up like other young women who lost their limbs or were cruelly killed.
As for Kenny, he had died horribly.
Why did she end up living like a beggar while Skylar, despite losing Joe, could live so comfortably? She couldn't understand it.
Janine's face darkened as she looked at Maisy, who kept shouting in anger.
After taking a deep breath, Janine said, "There was never much of a bond between us. You know very well what you did in the past. So, you must bear the consequences of your own choices. You know better than anyone what happened between you, Christopher, and Kenny."
