Preslie was baffled by the slap and all the accusations thrown at her.
She couldn't help raising her voice. "What are you talking about?! I just found out what had happened to Mom. How am I the one at fault?!"
Amelia turned to her father, "You see, Dad?! This shameless woman is denying all her doings!"
Flushed from anger, Salter roared, "If you hadn't called the police and got us detained, your mother wouldn't have gotten beaten up! She's in there now, all thanks to you!"
Preslie was at a loss for words.
The accusation got her even more baffled.
When had she called the police and got her parents detained?!
Just as Preslie was about to get to the bottom of the matter, her phone rang.
It was Yesseca.
Preslie had rushed out, not having time to explain to Yesseca. And now that Yesseca was free, she called to ask what had happened.
Preslie answered the call aside.
She roughly told Yesseca the situation in the hospital.
The news stumped Yesseca.
"Yesseca, I can't say much more right now. I have to ask my dad the full story and also talk to the doctor about my mom's condition." With that, Preslie was about to hang up.
Yesseca immediately stopped her. "Preslie, wait!"
At the same time, Preslie's thumb was only fractions of an inch away from the end call button.
Yesseca said apologetically, "I called the police and had your parents taken to the detention center."
Preslie fell silent.
Yesseca arrived at the hospital twenty minutes later.
She was filled with guilt and regret when she saw Celine was still in the surgical suite.
She had asked the police to detain them for a week only to teach them a lesson so they wouldn't cause a scene at the patisserie anymore. Little did she think this would happen!
Celine was beaten up so severely she was sent to the emergency room!
Calter lashed out at Yesseca the moment she showed up and was even on the verge of beating her up when Preslie stood in front of her.
She said, "Don't you think you've had enough of venting your anger, Dad?!"
Seeing his daughter was stopping him, Calter's fury grew. "You disloyal wench! How can you stand on her side when she did this to your mother?!"
Upset as well, Preslie said, "Dad, why do you think Yesseca called the police to arrest you? If you two had left us alone, she wouldn't have involved the police, would she?!"
Although Yesseca hadn't explained her reason for getting the police involved, Preslie had a good idea why.
Calter was fuming with rage.
"You heartless child!" Calter then said, "Your mother and I raised you for nothing! How can you side with an outsider?! What have we done to raise such a heartless wench!"
Amelia patted her father's back and said, "Dad, I've already told you. There's no point talking to Preslie. I've already told you it's useless to butter up to her when she was still working in Nashaland. You believe me now when I say she's heartless, don't you?
Calter pointed at Preslie and Yesseca. "Just you wait! Now that my wife is in the emergency room because of you two, there's no way well let this slide unless you give us 50% of the shares to your shop!"
Preslie and Yesseca were both stunned.
They couldn't believe Calter was still in the mood to talk money at this time. However, they fell silent, not wanting to argue anymore.
Taking their silence as an agreement, Calter snorted and said no more.
Amelia, on the other hand, glared at her sister with jealousy and hatred.
Growing up, Preslie had always been inferior to her.
Preslie was like an ugly duckling compared to her.
But who would've thought that woman lucked out later.
