His child had also chosen to be with Terence and Natalie.
So what was he? His company was gone, his family was gone. He had nothing. He was a good-for-nothing.
Angela watched Darren numb himself with alcohol.
She rushed forward in distress and said, “Stop drinking! What are you doing? You’ll drink yourself to death like this!”
Darren said, “Let me die then. I have nothing left anyway. My family is gone, my company, my career—it’s all gone. From now on, I’m just a useless wreck.”
Angela hadn’t expected Darren to be so dejected and miserable after seeing Natalie. He had been undefeated all this time.
“Darren, what’s wrong with you? You were the one who told me not to give up, not to be defeated. Why have you suddenly become so down? Is it because of Natalie?”
Darren didn't answer, just continued to drink.
She said, “The blow to your career didn’t crush you. Even facing huge debts didn’t crush you. But a few words from Natalie have left you this devastated?”
Darren said, “She used to love me so much. Her eyes were full of me, but I lost her. The whole point of my struggle was to give her and our son a good life. I don’t know how I ended up like this, losing everything, including my own wife and child. I’m truly the most useless person in the world.”
“Don’t be like this. Really, don’t.”
