“Well, what do we have here? Worried the pretty lady would be lonely in death, so you came to join her?”
They looked up and saw Marie pointing a gun at them.
Darren immediately stepped in front of Angela. “What do you want?”
Marie said, “Darren, I didn’t expect you to stand in front of her. Are you trying to die for her?”
He wanted to ask, “Who are you?”
“I never thought you’d be able to find this place. Were you following me? So you suspected my identity from the start.”
Darren said, “You’re Marie, aren’t you?” Hearing this, Marie smiled. “As expected of the man who once loved me so deeply. You recognized me right away.”
Darren felt a wave of disgust.
“Why did you get plastic surgery to look like Angela? What are you trying to accomplish?”
Angela laughed. “Why would you ask such a stupid question? I am Angela now. Naturally, I plan to take over her life. Anyone who gets in my way deserves to die.”
Darren said, “Let Angela go. I’ll give you whatever you want.”
Marie sneered. “You’ll give me whatever I want? What do you have now? The Cross Group is already bankrupt. You’re so deep in debt you’ll never pay it off in this lifetime. What could you possibly give me?”
“Marie, it’s not too late to turn back. Don’t keep making these mistakes.”
“Turn back? Turning back would be hell on earth. I’m about to marry Terence. I’ll be Mrs. Everhart, and soon, the wife of the head of the Aurelius Group. My life is about to take off. Turning back would be the most foolish thing to do.”
Marie pointed at Darren. “But look at you. You had a clear path to safety, but you chose to walk right into this mess. Is it worth losing your life for Angela?”
