When Kayla thought about it more carefully, she realized she couldn't find anything wrong with Ayla.
Earlier that day, she had asked Ayla to walk with her in the garden for quite a while. In truth, it had been a quiet test. And Ayla had passed it without a problem.
No matter how big the occasion was or how many powerful people were around, if Ayla had to step forward and face the pressure, she could handle it. The girl had strong nerves.
Then there were Ayla's eyes—cool, calm, and clear. Kayla liked them very much.
When she put everything together, Kayla had to admit she truly liked Ayla. Even the first time they met, when she had felt slightly dissatisfied, she had still liked the girl deep down.
Just then, Kayla's phone vibrated.
Draven was calling.
She answered. His cold voice came through the phone immediately. "You went to the party? Why?"
Kayla replied in an even tone, "I went to see Martin and congratulate him on his new great-grandchildren."
There was a brief silence. "Did Ayla see you?" Draven asked.
Kayla let out a small snort. "Of course she did. I asked her to walk with me for a while. I also gave her a little lecture."
"You—!" Draven fell silent for a few seconds, clearly holding himself back. But when he spoke again, anger still slipped into his voice. "Why would you do that? What happens between me and her is none of your concern."
Clearly, his son was panicking.
The last time Kayla had heard Draven lose control like this was when she told Jeremy about his relationship with Ayla. Draven had immediately called her to question her about it.
Draven had always been good at suppressing his feelings. In Kayla's memory, he had always been calm, obedient, and steady. Seeing this side of him back then had surprised her. She had not allowed him to speak to her in such a tone.
But this time, Kayla didn't get angry. Her voice only grew colder. "Ayla dumped you," she said. "What's wrong with me standing up for you?"
"You... I already told you. My business with Ayla has nothing to do with you." Draven quickly calmed himself again. But his tone turned even more distant. "Ms. Storm, I don't think there's any need for us to repair our relationship. And I certainly don't need you to defend me."
Then he hung up the phone.
Kayla glanced at her phone and smiled.
Elizabeth frowned, confused. "Why are you smiling? You didn't do that. Draven misunderstood you again."
