Divorce me I'm done serving you (Ayla) novel Chapter 675

Damn it. Draven was an enigma, impossible to decipher.

Max paused for two long seconds, jaw clenched in frustration. "Mr. Storm, are you really going to break up two people who care about each other?"

Draven's reply was quiet and unwavering. "As you can see."

Max let out a cold, bitter laugh. "And what right do you have to interfere in my relationship with Ayla? Because you're her ex—who hasn't been in her life for almost four months? Mr. Storm, Ayla dumped you. There's nothing between you now. What gives you the right to dictate who she can love?"

"That's exactly why I came," Draven said. "I want you to leave her on your own."

As his words landed, the bodyguard's grip on Max tightened. Both of Max's arms were wrenched behind him, pain flaring in his shoulders. If they twisted any harder, he was sure they'd dislocate. The strain finally broke through his composure, and his face contorted in discomfort.

He couldn't keep up the façade of calm any longer. Gritting his teeth, Max managed, "Draven, my girlfriend is literally next door. If it bothers you so much to see us together, why don't you go ask her yourself?"

A flicker of hesitation flashed across Draven's icy exterior. He didn't answer right away.

Max sensed he'd struck a nerve, and it caught him off guard. "What's wrong? Are you afraid?" he pressed, eyes narrowed.

Draven's brows drew together in a deep, conflicted frown.

The realization hit Max, and it almost made him laugh. Was this really Draven's weakness? It seemed absurd, but when he thought back over Draven's behavior, it all made sense.

It was almost funny—almost too perfect.

He couldn't resist pushing further. "Honestly, Ayla speaks highly of you. The breakup hurt her too... She remembers all the good you did. But if she saw this side of you—if she saw you acting just like Troy—do you really think she'd still love you?"

Troy always said Draven was good at hiding his true self.

Max never believed it, until now.

Draven's domineering side, so carefully hidden from Ayla, was on full display now. Max realized Draven was terrified she'd see it and be repulsed. No wonder Draven never showed his real self while dating her. No wonder, after all that time, Ayla still chose to leave.

Draven had created a flawless romance for her, shielding her from disappointment. But when real hardship arrived, he was too afraid to break the illusion.

They'd never faced anything difficult together, so neither had faith they could survive adversity. Ayla would rather keep the memory perfect than watch reality shatter it. She feared the unknown, the untested boundaries, so she lost confidence and backed away. She couldn't be for certain she could keep going with Draven.
