Eleven Years All to the Wrong Man novel Chapter 269

Emma had been busy lately. During the day, she would lie to her mother, telling her she was going to work when she was actually sneaking off to the hospital for chemotherapy.

Fortunately, Mrs. Hayes didn't suspect a thing.

Worried that her mother would be bored at home alone, Emma paid Kelly to keep her company.

When Kelly first got the call, she was hesitant. “Emma, I’m not really a very lively person. I’m not sure I’d be good company for an older woman… Maybe you should find someone else?”

But Emma wouldn't trust anyone else. She reassured Kelly, “It’s fine, you just have to be there. My mom is very talkative; she’ll find things to talk about. If you two get bored at home and she wants to go out for a walk or something, just take her. I’ll cover all the expenses.”

With Emma's assurance, Kelly stopped hesitating and readily agreed.

Emma’s health had been pretty good recently. The results from her latest tests came back, and all her levels were trending upward. Overall, things were looking positive.

Nathan leaned back in his chair and handed her the printed report. “For now, there are no major issues. Don’t worry. If a suitable match becomes available, I’ll arrange the surgery for you as soon as possible.”

Emma never really understood these reports, but she took it and looked it over seriously anyway.

“How much does the surgery cost? And what about the follow-up treatments?”

Nathan replied, “The surgery will be between $500,000 and $800,000. It’s expensive, but given your financial situation, even the top-tier options are well within your means.”

Hearing the estimate, the last of Emma’s worries vanished.

As he worked, he glanced at Melissa, who was frozen in place, her face ashen. “Please step aside for now. We’ll handle this.”

“Okay… okay…”

Melissa scrambled to her feet in a daze. As she stood, her legs gave out, and she nearly collapsed again. Sandra caught her just in time and guided her away. “Ma’am, please try to stay calm and wait here. We have this under control, okay?”

Melissa nodded mechanically, like a puppet, as the nurse half-supported, half-dragged her out of the room.

Thomas’s condition had been relatively stable until now. This was completely unexpected. After running all the necessary emergency procedures, Nathan had him carefully moved onto a gurney, and the other doctors rushed him toward the ICU.
