Brandon looked at Stephen, a feeling creeping over him that Stephen had stolen his place.
If he hadn't stolen his position, Lillian would probably still be calling him 'big brother,' right?
Unconsciously, a hint of hostility colored Brandon's glare at Stephen.
But it never once occurred to him to wonder how Lillian felt when they brought Sabrina and her daughter into the house, letting Sabrina replace her mother and Bella replace her.
After Brandon was gone, Stephen finally reacted, pointing at the door. "He—he—he glared at me! What right does he have to glare at me?"
Lillian replied, "It's probably just his bruised ego. He didn't expect to be found out so quickly."
"No, Lillian, his logic is all wrong, isn't it? He's the one who did it. Why blame someone else when his scheme was exposed?
That look in his eyes wasn't normal."
Lillian said, "You'll get used to it. The men of the Mercer family are all like that. Arrogant and selfish."
Stephen said, "Speaking of which, Lillian, are you really not going to call the police?
Just holding onto the evidence has a time limit.
And once Brandon cleans up this mess, he'll deny everything.
That'll be a real headache."
Lillian said, "I still have to consider leaving a sliver of hope for Grandma.
What if she wakes up and sees the family in this state—her granddaughter has been to prison, her grandson is in prison, and the group she built with her own hands has collapsed? I'm afraid if she wakes up to that, her will to live will just vanish.
Mom is already in her state, and she'll probably never recover in this lifetime.
Lillian had gone to an auction a couple of days ago. He heard she bought something. Could it be that much of a coincidence…
Brandon quickly made a call to check on the items sent to the auction. Sure enough, it didn't take long to find the piece that had been bought by Lillian.
No wonder his scheme was exposed so quickly. He had been so careful when he found his people. It shouldn't have fallen apart this fast. He never expected the leak to come from the auction house.
If he had known, he wouldn't have been in such a rush to sell the items directly in Northwyn.
But he had weighed the risks. He figured Lillian didn't have much money, and given her personality, she would prioritize using it for their grandmother and mother's care. She wouldn't spend much on herself.
Naturally, that meant she wouldn't be shopping much, let alone going to auctions.
Who could have thought that his plan to gut the Lancaster family would be stopped dead in its tracks right as it was beginning?
Now Lillian had this huge piece of leverage over him, and she could threaten him at any moment.
