Family on Their Knees Heart Turned to Ice novel Chapter 727

Sabrina deflated like a popped balloon.

The golden opportunity had slipped right through her fingers. What was the point of asking that now?

Unable to keep her frustration in check, she snapped, "Never mind. I don't need anything anymore."

Debbie was actually quite pleased by Sabrina's outburst. Her immediate flare-up of temper was a clear signal that the coast was clear.

The crisis was averted, and that was definitely a win.

As Sabrina hung up, Debbie finally stepped out of her hiding spot in the restroom. She casually strolled back to the card table to wait.

When Sabrina returned, shoulders slumped in defeat, she took one look at Debbie happily snacking on a fruit platter brought by the staff and felt her blood boil.

But she didn't dare throw a tantrum and vent her anger directly at Debbie.

After all, this was her daughter's future mother-in-law. She had to hold her tongue.

"You have no idea what you just missed," Sabrina muttered.

Debbie blinked innocently. "Oh? Did I miss something exciting?"

"I was just thinking about how you and Old Mr. Blake haven't seen each other in years, and coincidentally, he was right here today. I figured if you headed out to the parking lot, you might bump into him. I can't believe you missed him. What a shame."

Debbie's internal alarms validated her earlier suspicion. Just as she thought, Sabrina had orchestrated the whole thing to force a reunion with Old Mr. Blake. Thank god she was smart enough to avoid it. If they had crossed paths, her luxurious, carefree days here in Northwyn would have come to an abrupt, ugly end.

Of course, Sabrina had no clue what was actually going through her mind.

Still, she couldn't make her aversion to seeing her ex too obvious, lest Sabrina try another sneaky tactic to jeopardize her cushy lifestyle.

"It's not that I haven't wanted it all these years, it's that it's impossible."

Debbie had to look out for number one. Bella probably still had plenty of cash lying around. As long as the girl was desperate to marry Sebastian, she would keep throwing money at Debbie to stay in her good graces.

And there was no telling how long she'd actually be able to live it up in Northwyn.

She fully intended to milk this opportunity for every last drop while the fun lasted.

She would play along with whatever Bella wanted just enough to keep the girl satisfied, and the cash flowing freely.

Sabrina let out a sigh of relief. It seemed today's failure was just a matter of bad timing, not intentional evasion.

Comforting Debbie, she promised, "Don't worry. Next time there's an opening, I'll make sure you and Mr. Blake get that reunion!"
