Family on Their Knees Heart Turned to Ice novel Chapter 735

Debbie didn't have the stomach for that kind of warfare. Even if Old Mr. Blake spared her, his wife, Charlotte Blake, certainly wouldn't.

If Charlotte decided to settle their old scores, she'd chew Debbie up and spit her out.

Debbie wasn't stupid.

More importantly, she hadn't been to the casino in days.

The casino hosts were terrified of losing their resident whale. They bombarded her phone with calls and texts, desperate to know when she'd be back at the tables.

But was that really something she could control?

Well, yes.

Yes, she could.

It didn't take long for Debbie to come up with a brilliant excuse. She made a quick phone call and summoned Lucas back from his hometown.

The moment her young, muscular boy toy arrived, Debbie completely ignored Sabrina's persistent invitations and finally gave her a hard no.

"Listen, Sabrina, today really isn't a good time for me. I'm completely tied up, so I won't be making it," Debbie lied smoothly into the phone.

"Why don't you go have fun on your own? Grab some of your country club friends for a game of poker or something. It'll be a nice distraction. I'll catch up with you next time."

Without giving Sabrina a chance to respond, Debbie hung up.

There was nothing left to say anyway. She had much more entertaining things to do.

She had already humored Sabrina enough. Playing the supportive friend every single day was exhausting and frankly, beneath her.

Tossing her phone aside, Debbie ran her hand over Lucas's chiseled abs, a thoroughly satisfied smirk on her face.

"Now this is exactly the kind of game a wealthy woman should be playing," she purred. "Who wants to waste their life catering to some wrinkled old man? How boring."

These days, she only cared about one thing: cold, hard cash. Old Mr. Blake meant absolutely nothing to her anymore.

Financial freedom without the chains of a miserable marriage—that was the ultimate dream.
