Lillian's voice was firm and unyielding. While her friends worried about the impending fallout, she truly couldn't care less.
She was right. She had done nothing wrong.
What had she ever done to deserve the abuse from the Mercer family or the Blake family?
She wasn't about to shoulder the blame for other people's sins. Lillian refused to play the victim or torture herself over their toxicity.
Seeing her radiating such quiet confidence, Leonard finally relaxed.
"I'm coming with you to the test flight tomorrow," he stated.
It was a monumental milestone, and he wanted to be there to witness her triumph.
Lillian gently shook her head. "The test is outdoors, and the weather has been terrible lately. You should stay home."
"I'll video call you from the site. You'll get a first-person view of the whole thing. How does that sound?"
"Besides, the press conference is indoors. You can come to that. There's no need to rush out in the cold tomorrow."
Leonard wanted to insist. He didn't care about a little bad weather.
After all, he had recently handled a whole vacation just fine.
But Lillian was overly protective. To her, a luxury resort with perfect amenities was completely different from a rugged testing site.
The payload test would involve simulated harsh weather conditions. It definitely wasn't an ideal environment for him in his current state.
Leonard wanted to argue, but he knew better than to push it.
He was a taken man now, and the golden rule of a happy relationship was simple: listen to your woman.
The group wrapped up the evening shortly after, heading their separate ways to get some much-needed rest.
Victor had hitched a ride with Lillian to the estate, so Nathan offered to drop him off on his way home.
Once the house was quiet, Lillian headed upstairs to her bedroom.
