The child looked slightly different, but she was still heartbreakingly thin and hadn't grown an inch. It was painfully obvious that her parents had still been neglecting her.

A bitter ache gripped Celia's chest as she hurried forward.

Dolores recognized her instantly. She broke into a run, practically throwing herself forward. "Auntie! Auntie!"

Celia caught her in a tight embrace, the dam finally breaking as her tears fell like rain. "Oh, sweetheart... you're a good girl. Auntie is going to give you a new name. You're not going to be tied to them anymore. From now on, you're starting a brand new life with me."

Dolores didn't entirely understand, but the promise of going to school and staying with Auntie was more than enough.

She reached up with her tiny hands to wipe Celia's cheeks. "Auntie, why are you crying? Is it because Mom made you pay my allowance and took all your money? Are you broke now? It's okay.
