Lucian grabbed Lilian by the collar, hauling her up from the floor.
“Do you take us for idiots?” he roared, his eyes bloodshot.
“Everyone in Jarrow City knows how much Damien treasures Grace! Were you blind at the reception? Did you not see how he defended her?”
“Still in touch? Grace won’t even answer our calls! You expect us to believe she’s contacting Ethan?”
“Lilian, if you’re going to lie, at least try to make it believable!”
Cassian also stared at her coldly, his eyes filled with disappointment.
“Lilian, we listened to too many of your stories, and that’s why we misunderstood Grace time and time again.”
He remembered five years ago, when Lilian had tearfully claimed her sister was too jealous to donate bone marrow.
He remembered three years ago, when Lilian had played the victim, claiming her sister had stolen her research.
He remembered it all so clearly now.
All along, the truly malicious, deceitful one had been Lilian.
Mr. Hart was trembling with rage. He pointed a shaking finger at Lilian.
“How could I have raised such a… such a shameless, manipulative daughter!”
“Do you think we’re fools? Did you think we wouldn’t investigate the things you’ve done?”
“What really happened with Grace’s ‘Tech Innovation Award’? And who hired those thugs at the reception?”
“You have utterly disgraced the Hart family name! And you still have the audacity to come here and stir up more trouble?!”
Growing more furious by the second, Mr. Hart grabbed an ashtray from the desk, ready to hurl it.
Dorian rushed in from the doorway just in time to stop him.
“Dad! Calm down!”
He glanced at Lilian, who was kneeling on the floor, her face pale. The last trace of pity in his eyes vanished.
“Lilian, go,” he said, his voice colder than she had ever heard it.
“This isn’t your home anymore.”
Lilian felt as if she had been struck by lightning, staring in disbelief at the family who had once cherished her.
