As evening fell, Grace took a cab back to the “home” she hadn’t seen in so long.
The Hart family villa...
This house had been part of her mother’s dowry.
Yet in this home, she had been treated worse than a servant.
She stood outside the ornate iron gate, looking at the brightly lit house, a world that seemed to have nothing to do with her.
Taking a deep breath, she rang the doorbell.
It was Lilian who opened the door.
She was wearing a white dress, her soft hair draped over her shoulders. Her face was pale, her eyes red and swollen, looking as if she had suffered a terrible injustice.
When she saw Grace, she first flinched, then forced a smile that looked worse than a grimace.
“Grace... you’re back.”
Her voice was timid, trembling.
Grace couldn’t be bothered with her and walked straight in.
In the living room, Mr. Hart immediately rushed over, his face wreathed in smiles. “Ah, Grace is back! Quick, come in!”
His enthusiasm was so great, you’d never guess he was the one who had kicked her out of the house.
Lucian was sitting on the sofa with his legs crossed. The moment he saw her, he snorted, his eyes filled with disdain and contempt.
Cassian gave her a critical once-over.
Only Dorian stood up, his expression complicated. After a moment’s hesitation, he spoke. “Grace, are you... feeling okay?”
“I won’t die.”
Grace’s three curt words hung in the air, and the atmosphere in the living room instantly froze.
