She wasn't about to accept this.
“If I’m going down anyway, I’m taking someone with me.”
Amelia dialed a number that wasn't saved in her contacts.
“Be quick about it. I want the core code Grace has, and I want Grace… on her knees, begging me.”
Meanwhile, in a high-end residential complex.
Grace's grandmother was sitting on the balcony, wearing her reading glasses and knitting a sweater for Grace.
With all the trouble befalling the Hart family, her grandmother felt it was best not to stay at the Clarke estate. She had insisted that Grace find her a place in a secure apartment complex.
“Grace gets cold so easily. I have to use the best cashmere,” her grandmother murmured to herself, her face full of affection.
The doorbell rang.
Her grandmother put down her knitting needles and walked to the door to look through the peephole.
She saw two young men in uniforms, wearing ID badges and smiling earnestly.
“Ma’am, we’re from the community outreach program, promoting an accident insurance plan for seniors. We have a complimentary grocery giveaway for you. Could you open the door?”
Her grandmother hesitated.
Back when Grace was being mistreated by the Harts and often went hungry, her grandmother used to collect recyclables to save up for her granddaughter’s tuition. She was easily swayed by these small promotional gifts, all for the chance to buy Grace a special treat.
That deep-seated frugality and love for her granddaughter made her instinctively want the free groceries.
“Oh, I’m coming.”
Just as she was about to open the door, a large hand suddenly clamped down on the doorknob.
“Don’t open it.”
It was Daniel, the head of Damien’s security detail, who had been posing as her next-door neighbor for the past six months. Ever since Lucian had nearly harmed her grandmother, Grace had arranged for double protection.
Her grandmother was startled. “Daniel? But they’re giving away groceries…”
“Ma’am, it’s a trap.”
Daniel sneered and yanked the door open.
“Amelia.”
She whispered the name and took a deep breath.
Her grandmother was her absolute limit. She was the only person in the world who had ever given her warmth.
“What’s wrong?” Damien sensed the change and rose to stand beside her.
Grace looked up, her eyes slightly red.
“Damien, I want the Cross Group wiped off the map.”
Seeing her like this, Damien’s heart ached.
He wrapped his arms around her and, in front of all the senior executives, kissed the top of her head.
“Alright. Anything you want.”
He turned to his assistant, Felix, his gaze turning deadly cold. “Notify the legal department and all our media partners. And get Chief Merrick from the police department on the line. Since Amelia doesn’t want to go down with dignity, we’ll help her do it the hard way.”
