Five Years Wasted Now They Beg Her Back novel Chapter 56

“Let him come see me. Otherwise, I’ll end it right here, and that won’t do anyone any good.”

The dead calm in her voice sent a shiver down the servant’s spine outside the door.

Before long, the lock turned.

Cassian pushed the door open, followed by an impatient Lucian.

He knew it.

No matter how strong-willed someone was, they couldn't withstand hunger and despair.

“Changed your mind?” he asked, his tone condescending as if he were examining an object that had finally been tamed.

Grace slowly lifted her head.

Her eyes were dull and lifeless, as if covered by a thick layer of dust.

“I’ll marry him,” she said.

“But I have one condition.”

Lucian scoffed. “You think you’re in any position to make demands?”

Grace managed a small smile. “I’m willing to sacrifice myself for the Hart family. You can plan the wedding however you want.”

“But from this day forward, none of you are to interfere with my research or my life ever again.”

“I want you to swear on my mother’s soul.”

Her voice was soft, yet it carried a resolve that bordered on self-destruction.

To the Hart brothers, her words sounded like complete and utter surrender.

A woman, forced into a corner by her family with nowhere to turn, begging only to hold on to the last pathetic, insignificant shred of her career.

How perfectly reasonable.

How pathetically laughable.

A victor’s smile played on Cassian’s lips.

“Fine. I agree.”

He couldn’t even be bothered to make the empty vow.

“As long as you obediently marry Mr. Brooks, we won’t interfere with anything you do in the future.”

He shot Lucian a look.

“Have someone bring her food, let her take a shower, and get her into some decent clothes.”
