Adolphus turned to Laurinda, his voice soft. “Are you tired? Want to take a nap?”
Laurinda kept her eyes on her phone and shook her head. “No, I’m good. I’ve actually rested pretty well.”
The last five days had been hectic, but she’d still managed to get some downtime, so she was feeling decent. What really put her in a good mood, though, was seeing someone from Stonehaven losing their mind and placing orders on the dark web. That virus she’d planted was doing its job, giving Stonehaven all kinds of headaches.
“How’s the Charles family doing?” Laurinda asked. Stonehaven wasn’t the only group she was keeping tabs on. She was dying to hear if the Charles family had finally hit a rough patch.
“Things are pretty bad for them,” Adolphus said. “They got hacked, some of their systems were tampered with, and a whole batch of their products is faulty. It’s a big loss. Plus, the Main family is putting pressure on them, so a lot of companies are breaking off their partnerships with the Charles Group. Even the ones who haven’t cut ties aren’t renewing their contracts. Their supply chain is falling apart.”
“As for their private family drama, I haven’t paid much attention. Sam told me Pearce’s wife tried to take Adah and Thalia to apologize to Cathleen at the Main family’s place, but they weren’t even let in.”
Laurinda couldn’t hide her satisfaction at the Charles family’s mess. She glanced at Adolphus, picking up on the fact that he wasn’t telling her everything. Resting her chin in her hand, she asked, “Are you hiding something from me?”
Adolphus laughed quietly, clearly amused. “You can always tell, can’t you?” He reached out and gave her cheek a playful squeeze.
“After the banquet, Pearce tried to get back at you. But honestly, he picked the most ridiculous way—he copied Aggie’s old tricks.”
“Now, not only has Aileen’s scandal come out, but so has the news that she cheated on Bagot. People also found out that Aggie and Lawrence are Austin family descendants, and their whole publicity stunt was exposed.”
