“It’s really not surprising. If Bagot wanted Aiken dead, it would be way too easy.” Adolphus sounded calm, almost bored. He’d heard plenty about Bagot’s dirty tricks.
Laurinda sat by the window, her mood light and easy. She watched the scenery rolling by and said, “I wonder what Aileen will do when she finds out Aiken’s dead.”
Adolphus glanced over, puzzled. He wasn’t sure what Laurinda meant. He didn’t know much about Aileen and Aiken’s relationship. “Was Aiken actually important to her?” he asked.
Laurinda shook her head. “Honestly, I don’t know. But I want to take a risk. Or maybe I just want to push Aileen to protect herself. She needs to see that if Bagot could kill Aiken, he could just as easily kill her. Or even her daughter.”
“If she wants to stay alive, if she wants to protect her kids, she only has one choice. She has to get rid of Bagot before he comes after her.”
Adolphus understood, but he knew it wouldn’t be easy to convince Aileen. He looked at Laurinda, so relaxed, and figured she must already have something planned.
“You’ve got a plan, don’t you?” he asked.
“Not yet. Right now, I just need you to get a message to Aileen for me. If she’s willing to cooperate, then I’ll start working on the next steps.”
“Alright. I’ll handle it.” Adolphus met Laurinda’s bright eyes and felt completely willing to do anything for her. Taking care of Bagot was nothing. If she wanted to turn Cabinda upside down, he’d have her back all the way.
The car pulled up at Lunaria Lakeside. Adolphus handed Teddy the key card for Foley’s place and told him to take Jasper to freshen up. Then he led Laurinda straight back to his own apartment.
In front of Foley’s door, Teddy and Jasper stood silently, watching the elevator doors close.
“So, your sister just let Adolphus take her?” Teddy asked, looking a bit lost.
