Yeah, that’s right. It was totally flirtatious.
Before Seraphina could even ask what was going on, the private room door swung open. A guy in a chef’s uniform came in, pushing a cart loaded with food.
“Sorry to keep you waiting.”
Laurinda looked up and almost did a double take. The man was huge, like he could walk through a set of double doors without turning sideways. And he was definitely attractive, way more than she expected from a chef. He even had muscles.
He started setting the dishes on the table, then sat down right next to Seraphina like he belonged there. Still, he didn’t look at her, acting all moody and distant.
“Why are you two heading back so soon?” he asked, directing his question at Adolphus.
Adolphus handed Laurinda a fork and barely bothered to answer. “We’ve been here more than a week. She’s got classes back at Apex.” He paused, then turned to Laurinda. “Oh, let me introduce you. This is my girlfriend, Laurinda. Laurinda, this is Kendrick.”
“Nice to meet you, Kendrick.”
“Hi.” Kendrick smiled at her. “I didn’t bring a gift, but here, take this.” He pulled out a shiny gold card. “It’s our restaurant’s VIP card. You never need a reservation, and you can order anything you want.”
Seraphina suddenly interrupted, pouting. “Wait, we’ve been friends forever and I never got one of those.”
Kendrick finally glanced at her, looking honestly surprised, like he’d just noticed she was there. “Oh? When did you get here, Seraphina?”
She stared at him, half annoyed, half confused. “Seriously, Kendrick? I’m right here. Are you pretending I’m invisible?”
He shrugged. “Didn’t see you before, but I see you now. Didn’t you say the food here was just so-so? What are you doing back?”
