“I just got back from my parents’ place. Inside this bag are some holiday gifts they put together for you. Honestly, I’m not even sure what’s in there. They were hoping you’d spend the holidays with us, but I turned them down. Maybe after the New Year, if you’re up for it, we can go visit them.”
“Alright, let’s talk about it after the holidays.”
Laurinda had always had a good impression of the Lane family, and she didn’t mind the idea of spending more time with them.
She and Adolphus quickly unpacked everything. Neither of them had eaten lunch yet, so Adolphus suggested they head out to a private restaurant owned by Balaam’s son.
Seraphina insisted on driving them to the airport, so she tagged along for lunch, too.
Sitting in a private room, Seraphina looked out the window at the restaurant’s warm decor and couldn’t help but grumble. “Kendrick really spoils you. You can get a table here any time you want. You have no idea how many times I’ve tried to make a reservation and failed. The last time I ate here, I had to crash someone else’s dinner. I still don’t get why this place is so popular.”
Adolphus poured Laurinda a cup of tea and glanced at Seraphina, his voice casual. “You do have Kendrick’s number, right? Why don’t you just message him directly? Do you really think he’d say no to you?”
Seraphina let out a sigh. “Don’t even start. Kendrick actually deleted my number. I couldn’t get a table after that, and I swear he did it on purpose.”
Laurinda, who had seemed a little tired before, suddenly perked up. Her eyes sparkled with curiosity as she looked at Seraphina. “What did you do? Why would he delete your number? Come on, spill it. Maybe I can help you fight your case.”
Adolphus caught the glint in Laurinda’s eyes and knew she was itching for some juicy gossip. He thought she was getting cuter these days, so much more lively than she used to be, when she always kept to herself.
