From Ashes of Scandals to His Embrace novel Chapter 543

Without giving Nelly a chance to protest, Rodney dragged her straight back to the lounge, locked her inside, and stationed two people at the door to make sure she couldn’t escape.

Once he’d regained his composure, Rodney returned to entertain the guests. By then, Brown was already the star of the evening—everyone knew he was an esteemed visitor from Northland.

Meanwhile, Adolphus leaned his elbow on the table, resting his chin in his palm as he watched the young woman sulking beside him—clearly disgruntled now that her secret was out. His smile was gentle and teasing.

“What’s wrong? Upset your cover’s blown?”

Laurinda put down her phone and frowned, then leaned in closer to him, grumbling, “Brown’s one of the few people who’s actually seen me in person. Who’d have thought he’d appear here? Nelly must be absolutely fuming by now.”

Adolphus was surprised she had the presence of mind to think about that, and his smile softened. He bent down and brushed her lips with his own. “It’s for the best. At least she won’t pull any more embarrassing stunts to ruin everyone’s night.”

He cast a glance at Rodney, who was busy juggling the crowd, a knowing smile tugging at his lips. No wonder Rodney had suddenly grown bold—he must have found an opportunity to branch out into Northland.

Sitting next to Laurinda, Seraphina watched their playful banter and felt a pang of envy—those two were almost nauseatingly adorable.

Carla tugged gently at Seraphina’s sleeve, dropping her voice to a whisper. “Seraphina, aren’t you at all shocked by Laurinda’s identity?”

Seraphina tore her gaze away from Laurinda and pressed her lips together. “I guess I’m starting to get used to it. Sure, it’s wild enough she’s the founder of Norwich Venture Capital, but she’s got another secret that’s even more jaw-dropping. Have you heard of Queen? She’s their lead designer.”

Carla could only gape in astonishment, her entire view of Laurinda shifting. Queen was the top name in fashion—Laurinda was actually their star designer? Who even was this woman?

Soon after, the main branch of the family arrived. It was Laurinda’s first time meeting Cathleen’s parents. Trailing behind them was Irvin, his face perfectly serious, betraying not a trace of enthusiasm.

Sam, Egan, Edison, and Hale arrived fashionably late. They’d heard whispers on their way in but hadn’t quite believed them, so they hurried over to Adolphus to get the truth straight from him.

“Adolphus, is it really true about the founder?”

One look at their faces and both Laurinda and Adolphus knew exactly what they were asking. There was no point in denying it—they simply nodded.

“That’s right,” Adolphus said. “It’s true.”
