From Ashes of Scandals to His Embrace novel Chapter 546

Adolphus let out a melodramatic sigh, then added, “But seriously, Mom—what made you suddenly bring up our engagement? Don’t tell me getting wind of Earl’s engagement rattled you?”

“Don’t even mention that family,” Tanya retorted, her tone sharp. “Your father and I have agreed—we’re done meddling in Nelly’s business. The reason I want you two engaged is because you clearly can’t control yourself. You owe Laurinda a proper commitment, at the very least.”

As she finished, Tanya cast a pointed glance at Laurinda’s chest. Only then did Laurinda realize her blouse was askew, baring telltale evidence on her skin. Her cheeks instantly flamed, bright red with embarrassment.

“Uh… I… um…”

“We’re getting married,” Adolphus announced, cutting Laurinda off before she could stumble any further. “Mom, Laurinda and I have talked it through—we’re planning to hold the wedding on her birthday this year.”

“A wedding? What about the legalities? You aren't seriously planning a wedding without making sure everything is official first, are you?”

Tanya’s shock was palpable; even if Laurinda’s birthday wedding happened, it would be before she was graduated.

“ I’ve already looked into the paperwork. We can have the license ready and signed the moment Laurinda gives me the word.”

Adolphus hadn’t meant to let this slip; he hadn’t even proposed properly yet. His plan was to wait for the proposal to be just right—then head off with Laurinda to get the marriage license. But his mother’s sudden insistence on an engagement had thrown everything out of order.

“Married?”

Seraphina’s voice came from the doorway, her eyes wide. The moment she heard Laurinda and Adolphus were tying the knot, a vision of a wedding gown sprung to life in her head.

“Can I design Laurinda’s wedding dress? Please?”

She gazed at Laurinda, her face lit up with anticipation, the design already taking shape in her mind. If Laurinda agreed, she’d drop every other commission that very minute.
