Steven didn’t even glance at me, his face impassive. “If we wait for you to walk, the registry office will be closed by the time we get there.”
I was speechless.
I wasn’t walking that slowly, just a little bit slower than usual.
Fine. As long as he was willing to get the divorce, I wouldn't make a fuss.
As we stepped out of the villa, I saw Gordon standing by the car, his face a picture of surprise. He quickly opened the door.
“Mr. Lancaster. Mrs. Lancaster.”
I was surprised to see him too, but then I remembered it was Monday. Steven had to go to the office, so it was normal for Gordon to be here.
We all got into the car. I sat in silence, watching the scenery blur past the window.
Steven and Gordon discussed work.
The design competition had been a massive success, generating unprecedented publicity and feedback. Aether Studio was looking to sign contracts with the top three contestants. The second and third-place winners were already nearly secured, and since Linda was already affiliated with a partner company, she didn't need any special recruitment.
As for me, the first-place winner, I should have been the focus of a massive marketing campaign. The plan was to elevate my status, maximizing my commercial value.
After all, I was a director at a partner company, Mr. Taylor's soon-to-be final disciple, and Steven's wife. These multiple identities made me an easy and valuable asset for Aether Studio to promote. But here we were, just two days after the competition, on our way to get a divorce.
Gordon was so cautious he didn’t even dare use my name, referring to me only as "the first-place winner" while asking Steven for instructions.
I pretended not to hear them.
“Try to sign her if you can,” Steven said dismissively. “If you can’t, promote the second-place winner instead.”
Gordon shot a furtive glance at me in the rearview mirror. “Understood, Mr. Lancaster.”
They moved on to discussing the afternoon's meetings. Suddenly, I spotted a pharmacy and interrupted them.
“Gordon, pull over. I need to buy something.”
