I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 294

“Okay, you rest and listen to the doctor. Call me if you need anything, I’ll be there,” I said quickly. Then Rachel’s voice came on the line. “Zephyra, I’m working from here, so I can’t talk long. Just relax, he’s okay.”

“Oh, by the way, your Uncle Julian called for Horace yesterday, but I missed it. He sent a few strange texts afterward. He seems to think you don’t like the house and was asking Horace what you do like.”

“Horace just woke up and can’t be stressed, so I didn’t tell him. Do you want to call Uncle Julian and see what’s going on? He sounded pretty troubled.”

The house?

I was confused. I love houses. What woman doesn’t love houses? I thought Uncle Julian knew that. Why was he asking Horace?

“Okay, I’ll call him. You get back to work.”

After hanging up, I let out a deep breath and leaned back against the seat. I noticed Gordon glancing at me in the rearview mirror, his brow furrowed as if he wanted to say something.

Steven’s expression seemed to have grown even colder, his eyes like ice. He hadn’t said a word.

I noticed, but said nothing. I just sent a message to Uncle Julian, telling him I would be at the hospital later.

He replied immediately, but he didn't want me to come to the hospital. Instead, he asked where I was and said he would arrange for someone to pick me up.

I hesitated before replying: “At the registry office, getting a divorce from Steven.”

I couldn’t hide it from him. He already knew, we just hadn’t finalized the paperwork.

On WhatsApp, I could see the "typing..." indicator, but no message came through. I couldn’t tell if he was happy or angry.

In the end, I just sent a “we’ll talk later” and put my phone away.

We arrived at the registry office. Steven and I got out of the car, and Gordon waited for us by the entrance.

I forced myself to walk inside. Thankfully, there wasn't much of a line, and soon it was our turn.

The clerk looked us over, her sharp gaze lingering on the bandage on Steven’s forehead.

“Sir, your head seems to be injured. Are you alright? Do you need any assistance?”

My eyes flickered to Steven. His handsome face was as composed as ever, but the bandage was hard to miss.

“No, thank you,” he said, his tone cool and distant. “We’re here for a divorce.”
